Richard ran away from home at 13. He has been sleeping rough off and on ever since. This time for over a year! The night I first met Richard it was raining hard in London. The good news is he is on a waiting list for a hostel. As it is in the U.S., having a pet limits support services, so the delay is waiting for a pet-friendly facility.
Richard has lived a hard life but he makes it clear he doesn't want an sympathy. He knows there are others worse off than him. Richard tries to stay grateful in life!
I really like Richard. Over the last week I have spent a few moments talking to him. I really hope Richard and his dog Britney find a place to call home soon.

About Invisible People:
Since its launch in November 2008, Invisible People has leveraged the power of video and the massive reach of social media to share the compelling, gritty, and unfiltered stories of homeless people from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C. The vlog (video blog) gets up close and personal with veterans, mothers, children, layoff victims and others who have been forced onto the streets by a variety of circumstances. Each week, they’re on InvisiblePeople.tv, and high traffic sites such as KZbin, Twitter and Facebook, proving to a global audience that while they may often be ignored, they are far from invisible.
Invisible People goes beyond the rhetoric, statistics, political debates, and limitations of social services to examine poverty in America via a medium that audiences of all ages can understand, and can’t ignore. The vlog puts into context one of our nation’s most troubling and prevalent issues through personal stories captured by the lens of Mark Horvath - its founder - and brings into focus the pain, hardship and hopelessness that millions face each day. One story at a time, videos posted on InvisiblePeople.tv shatter the stereotypes of America’s homeless, force shifts in perception and deliver a call to action that is being answered by national brands, nonprofit organizations and everyday citizens now committed to opening their eyes and their hearts to those too often forgotten.
Invisible People is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to changing the way we think about people experiencing homelessness.

I ❤ how he said 'I'm not making excuses but things like that stick with ya'.. He is very humble about the trauma he endured as a child yet he does not blame others for the bad choices he made. The sad truth is he may not be homeless if he had had better opportunities and more support as a child. I get such a nice vibe from him..he is a kind soul.

He says a couple of times that he isn't looking for sympathy and I completely believe him. He is just trying to get the point of his situation across, he really had no one to help and guide him as a child. It really isn't his fault that he ended up on the streets. Richard also brings up a great point that I think about a lot which is that there is really no reason so many people should be starving. There is more than enough to go around but priorities are elsewhere.

Its sad but every man is capable of work regardless of direction. You either strive for that better life or you don't. People in Mexico grow up uneducated, and in horrid conditions. They still know the only way for that better life is too work your ass off. He was an addict, that is the main root of homelessness. It's sad but unfortunately the world is dog eat dog now. Nobody helps anyone so people are very protective of what thry break their backs for. Why should I have to work 12 hours a day when there are 30 year olds living off of section 8, and food stamps. Because I have self respect and disipline. If you don't work, you dont eat. 6 months ago I had 25 staples in my stomach, 2 knee surgeries from a fatal car accident. I still get up everday and work on my feet as a self taught sous chef. Started as a bus boy when I was 16. Your life is what YOU make of it.

You don't understand homeless don't have ID card and nowhere to have it sent. They have to be sent to an address. Need one to apply for job, food stamps, bus ticket to get to job, ect. If you don't know ... Don't criticize. You don't realize how far they sometimes have to walk to wash up, get to food pantries, pick up their bedding very early morning or be arrested as vagrant. If you think it's easy, you haven't a clue. 😪

(Everyone should be able to have their shelter to find the peace of mind eventually but...) He needed to be supported by some organizations while being educated with an appropriate shelter . He didn't talk that much about his situation saying that he has to run away . But he seemed to have been on the street without any kind of support, as he said he had to beg for living. There seems to be lack of system for the people in trouble.

What happens in your childhood stays with you it's true. I never knew my father and I'm 42 now and successful with a good job and carrier even though I left school with no qualifications. Even now though I still have nightmares involving my mother and she is always the villain in my dreams. My mother stole my hope for a normal life and tried to replace it with fake hope (extreme religion). When I was six I was told the world would come to an end before I made it to senior school, it's all these years later and my mother hasn't got that many years left and she's still spouting nonsense.

I’ve been binge watching this channel and what strikes me is the amount of people that end up homeless after running away from home due to domestic violence. I mean this seems to be such a common phenomenon. And another thing that strikes me is that many of these people do have a family but do not seek help from them. Which seems very strange to me, especially in the cases where there is no case of violence or drug addiction etc.
