When I had minor surgery a few years ago I was prescribed oxy when I left but I requested a non narcotic painkiller instead. While the nurse was supportive, the doctor refused my request and wrote a script for the opioid. I tore it up and took ibruprophen for the Pain, which was actually pretty tolerable. I don’t understand why the doctor did that, unless he was benefiting somehow from it.

My mother, who has multiple severely painful conditions, tried every invasive procedure, every experimental treatment, incurred permanent side effects, before finally finding a clinic who would manage her pain appropriately. Hold pharma accountable for unethical sales or marketing practices, of course, but remember these medications provide critical support to those who need them.
