Desperately good. Zorn is all things Celtic, to fill any empty space with stringed or voiced harmony. The drummer: impossible to find one that good, but here he is. The bassist invisible, laying down planks any tune could stand or walk on. Thompson playing Viking skies out of an electric while singing with a yeoman's voice Shakespeare's dancing feet. Good enough for tonight. Thanks for putting this up.

I was lucky to be in band with the modest and unassuming Pete Zorn for a very short time. We also both depped in another band together a few times. On zero rehearsal he would listen to a song for about four bars, choose his instrument and join in with a perfect performance. A fine talent much missed

I've seen RT tons of times, and it is hard to keep them all straight, but I'm pretty sure I was at this show. The recording is every bit as amazing as I remember the show being. Thompson is a national treasure in both the U.S. and the U.K. -- maybe a global treasure is a better way think of him.

You got that right, 37D-cup! :) In Jazz/Big Band a spirited groove out of the gate is often termed 'straight ahead' but that Tear Stained opener with full afterburners on would make a freight train take a dirt road! ;-) It's been less than a year since I even had heard of RT, but he single-handedly has gotten me into Folk music and because I have an Irish ancestry I tend to like their music, and every Irish woman I see on YT singing it is organically beautiful (many many just stunning to gaze upon whilst singing!) and possess a clear beautiful tone! Cheers! Oh, to all future YT viewers, if you haven't seen RT's "A 1000 Years of Popular Music' yet you're in for a fantastic, eclectic, artistic, and humorous treat!

I know I am answering new year old post but, as a guitarist, Richard Thompson was always there as a legendary player but his exceptionalness i Lives in his improv wirhin his quirky staccato scalar voicing and syncopated rhythmic melodic chording…add the voice and the social perspective behind his poetry and you arrive at, in my view, a rare thing ; fine as a bee’s wing yet fearsome in ability and attitude.

The Band: Pennsylvania-born Pete Zorn (guitar, mandolin, sax) has lived in London since the 70s, and his association with Richard Thompson goes back at least 20 years (and he appears on the Old Grey Whistle Test extra). Bassist Rory McFarlane toured with Thompson in the 80s and has played and recorded extensively with fellow RTB alumnus Christine Collister. (He plays bass on the Across A Crowded Room extras.) Texan Earl Harvin (drums and percussion) -the only new hand - heads his own jazz trio, and has worked with a diverse range of rock acts.

Pete Zorn started working with Richard Thompson in 1980, during the recordings of the original version of Shoot Out the Lights (Rafferty's Folly). He played bass on that and the final SOTL album, and saxophone on Hand of Kindness. He was in the tour band for the 1983 tour and then reappeared in the band for the Rumor and Sigh tour in 1991 (again on sax), and was then in the band until his death in 2016. Interestingly he didn't appear on any of Thompson's albums (except Sweet Talker, the soundtrack) until Dream Attic, which was recorded live.
