What Professor Richard needed to say is, they can keep the money they have now, but then change the system so they can't keep amassing similar wealth every year. Varney was fixated on the current wealth they had, which would not be touched.

Jorge Alvarez: Exactly! This ridiculous 'you're going to take my wealth from me because where else are you going to get it?' argument is silly and stupid. As Professor Wolff keeps trying to say, his plan is to change the system so that wealth doesn't accumulate so fast into so few pockets. That's all that needs to be said.

That's exactly what Varney is doing...defending those above him. But aside from the truly wealthy (the billionaires) which Stuart is not, it is people like Stuart who expects the rest of the country (middle class) to go and fight in "wars" that protect the corporations and the wealthy. That is essentially what service men do. Just read Gen. Smedley Butler's book, "War Is A Racket." I have no doubt you'll understand.

Benjamin r Benjamin r extracting 1000x the value from your employees is a “broken” system. If it was done in a tribal setting I’d 100 people, we would kill that one person, or at least take her out of power. If a discussion about restructuring the system isn’t on the table (which it clearly isn’t here), a rising up of the masses is inevitable. Pressure is building. I think it would matter more if the world wasn’t going to be a dystopian Mad Max type of world in the next 60 years. I just feel shitty about my friends kids and what the world their getting to inherit... focusing on “mine,mine,mine” instead of what brings the best of humanity to the forefront, is literally killing us. Capitalism is unsustainable. I want something better, but there’s a sick little part of me that wants to just wait till it’s starts burning and see all the faces of those like you that have been sticking your heads in the sand, as you stare into the face of a freight train that has been on the tracks and headed our way this whole time. I’m mostly bummed that the youngest of our humanity will have to see so much of the planet die. It’s sad.

Grande1124 do you take the OECD as a Credible source? Quality and service in Treatment are the same US and Europe but Coverage and affordability is far better in Europe. @sharann3482
@sharann3482 5 жыл бұрын
Grande1124 well I should have wrote it more detailed, the country’s with universal Healthcare (paid through treasury), have better coverage and cheaper prices than the US. Quality of treatment is the same among the top countries as you can buy anything if you have money. That the US has in certain sectors better successful treatments has nothing to do with healthcare. One is a Insurance service the other one is a medical service. The medical Service can be used by every insurance, just as a German family did. They flew to the US to get a operation, wich costed them freaking 300.000 EUROS, but still was covered by the German Universal Healthcare System. www.aerzteblatt.de/nachrichten/99696/Krankenkasse-muss-Kosten-fuer-Behandlung-in-USA-bezahlen If it was a private insurance they would have had to higher premiums or they would be have kicked out of the insurance. In our Universal system the Healthcare taxes will stay at 7,3% of the monthly Income. Yes most drugs and technologies come from the US and Europe is right behind it, but the US Companies and European Subsidies in the US are getting financed their research primarily through the Americans. Other Countries universal Healthcare systems are monopolies and the only customers to the pharmaceutical industry and hospitals. So the public Healthcare can dictate prices as low as possible. Also the tax for example in Germany is up to 45% but only 20% out of that goes to our Social Security. Our Social Security includes: • Healthcare 7.3% /covers nearly everything /Percentage stay the same even if you get older and sicker and sicker /those who earn less then 10K a year get free access /the overall prescription drugs etc are extremely made affordable • Pension Insurance 9.35% /even if you have earned nothing in your life you still get a existence minimum pension • Unemployment Insurance 1.5% /You get for 1 year your full salary and after that you get paid the existence minimum • Nursing Insurance 1.175% /if you have a accident and longterm effect (not from a working place) you get it paid • Accident Insurance (is Only paid by all Companies of the country) /pays for everything if you have a accident on workplace for your entire life if the accident also affects your entire life /forces companies to care about their workers Also this System is funded through a Pay-As-You-Go System, so the system is independent from Government crisis and budget crisis as well as independent from the stock market. And in the last 140 years our Social Security is existing the stock market and Government have crashed and interchanged for several times.

Why make that assumption. Ah, cuz you think jobs come from rich people. They are the 'job creators' , BUT no, they are opportunists and will exploit desparate people whereever they can. Physicians create jobs, BUT they are taking advantage of the human frailty that exists, in society, but why is it that few people can pay what they owe doctors the same day they get treatment, why exactly does it costs so much to be treated medically, such that groups are created and coverage levels created with a gamble in mind, some get sicker sooner? Value of being treated and cured becomes less important than making profits from the actions taken. OK, sure expertise is needed to educate those doing the treating and it costs, but why so much? Why is there this need to create profit above all else, and don't assume it's profits that are returned to the company to stay in business. Look at how an auto insurance company insures cars that lessens in value every year, yet insurance rates go up, as auto value goes down, so why wouldn't cost of coverage equalise somewhere in there? Because they are now 'profit generating' enterprises only. What about creating value that is often a priceless item.almost like the ongoing shock doctrine of scarcity creation and slave creation due to the Capitalist system. Most people who are millionaires inherited some to start. Don't be naive.

It's about The Process of Production of Capital. My guess is you won't bother to read either. But just as Dawkins says of those who read the titles of his books, and assume knowledge of the entire book, there's the business of the huge footnote between the covers they fail to bother with.

Those that support it are stuck with it in their European baby cribs and cannot hope for a higher standard of living and many are satisfied with Second World status. The facts don’t care about your feelings of fairness and the fact is the US is the best country in the world as a result of a free market based economy. I am not interested in more vacation or cradle to grave nanny programs so that I hang out all day in street cafes and coffee houses bitching about what could and should be in the world. Most people who are truly productive don’t either.....they are too busy living with a purpose and goals in life that center around the freedom to produce and create as much and as wealth creating as possible. That is the dream that the world sees in America and not the one this socialist is spewing. Billionaires start their journey with adventure being the focus of why they do what they do not for the paycheck in the end. The ride to wealth is what makes them special not the end game but success and the results of that success is not something any government should restrain or otherwise depreciate.

@@resume1009 Having less work hours with the same pay doesn't mean all of us will be lazy and bitch about things (some will, but...). The point is, there are so many people out there who have dreams, enthusiasm, and potential. Making all of these people work so many hours for the privilege of food in their belly and a roof over their heads shows how absolutely broken this system is. Being able to dedicate your life to something, or to many things, is a privilege most don't have. They have to work. And starting a business is not going to be a feasible way for most people to pursue their dreams. What about ambitions that don't include selling something? Ambitions that don't make anyone rich, but still help or entertain people. Less costs and/or more pay will mean individuals can spend more time with friends, contribute by volunteering, research, and making art. Even start more businesses. The way this could become a reality is with businesses and buildings being owned by workers and tenants. This would have incredible potential in my opinion to enable people to have more control over the economics of their lives. That is the potential of socialism (but you can call it by other names, solidarity economy, cooperative economy), and it's something we can start building today.

I have to disagree. Varney pushed pretty hard on what I would consider to be indirect questions, framed as taking money from someone, when Wolff clearly espoused the desire to change the system, whereby changing the hands that the money would eventually end up in. Framing it as taking someone's money, when in fact, it would be more honestly framed as switching the eventual recipient of money that, until it is received, truly has no owner, is dishonest. At one point, Varney flat-out claimed that, in Wolff's vision, an armed police officer would show up to Varney's house and start taking his shit. I would not agree that he was asked direct questions, or given honest push back. Further, his criticism of UBI left Varney stupefied in a way that only Varney could be stupefied. Wolff actually said that he doesn't believe that people should get something for nothing, and Varney quickly pivoted with a joke and moved on, presumably because he could no longer paint his monster. It was hilarious.

You say they don't want the US exploiting them, well someone is fucking exploiting them at the moment. They have almost 2 million in oil reserves PER CAPITA while most of the population makes 5 dollars a month. So are you sure they aren't getting exploited now. I will give you ONE hint. 17 yrs ago Putin gave them 5 billion dollars for the rights of 30 yrs worth of oil from the Orinoco region. Well Russia takes home 300,000 barrels a day from there. So do the math and figure who won and who lost there. Idiots saying that Venezuela doesn't allow the US to exploit them are hilarious. China and Russia are giving them the Bannana Republic treatment a la 1901 Central America. Basically allowing a couple of gangster States (This time is Russia and China) to give them some cash in exchange of 20 times more in resources. In the meantime their top officials walk away stealing a good 70% of those payments. Why do you think 15% of their population has escaped from there?

The hierarchy matters. It is a fundemental chnage to the structure of the system. Venezuela only had nationalized 30% of their business but they kept the capitalist robber baron hierarchy. A sad exercise in futility. The capitalists have a perverse definition of "earn", which has more to do with exploitation than it does anything that resembles an actual participation in the creation of the goods and services they profit from from on high. They bludgeon Wollf with that "expatriation" crap when their wealth came from exactly that to begin with. Except it's called "exploitation" when the redistribution begins with the original labor. They take it right off, and then later too via all the regressive taxes on consumption they set up to replace the progressive taxes that more fairly tax capital. Thus they take back what they can of the little they exploited to begin with. Exploitation and repatriation both. And so they have to keep the offensive and focus on strawmen arguments like welfare and the nanny state as "evil, wicked, mean and nasty". To explain where all the money really is. Statistics be damned... When in truth it is the elite who have it all. How can that ever be justified morally? Wolff is just out of his depth if he thinks he can debate these people on their own terms. He needs to take off the kid gloves and attack their self-serving immorality. But of course when you do that they become indignant. They have to keep themselves within the framework of the victim rather than the perpetrator or the whole thing breaks down. Because after all it's really very simple. There are only two natural resources for producing goods and services. Labor and Nature. Everything else is artificially created from those two things. So with respect to labor, the only way wealth can be distributed disproportionately is if there is hoarding. And that's what capitalism and the profit motive is all about; the efficient redistribution for the concentration of wealth...

I don’t love Wolff’s answers, even though I support his conclusions. First, you have to call out the statistic right away- we currently spend $3.5T per year on healthcare in the US, and in return we have the worst healthcare system in the developed world. Throwing out “Medicare for all will cost $38T over the next decade” is a lie by omission. And how will we pay for it? Taxes, which on average will be considerably lower than a private healthcare premium. And honestly, probably deficit spending. Secondly, just answer the wealth redistribution question directly. Yes, we will implement massive confiscatory wealth taxes on the top 1%. They have far too much capital and it is destroying democracy, the planet, the economy, and the livelihoods of 99% of the population. The $10M earned income? Find me someone who actually generates $10M worth of value in year. That person doesn’t exist. Capitalists take the profits of people’s labor and the interest on their debts and say they created value. Bullshit. They created value, you sapped it out of them and pretended you made it. Just say it straight up. Yes, we’re gonna take your money so we can create a functioning democracy, a reasonable standard of living, and a habitable environment for our kids. Fuck you if you don’t like it. There’s no reason to waffle around with these people.

Mellowcanuck33 I am often reminded of Rick Harrison, and watching Pawn Stars. People are always come in, expecting to get full market value for their crap from the shop, without realizing that Rick has ZERO obligation to buy their crap, and the only reason they would do so is if they can sell it for more than they bought it for. Rick tells them that if they want full market value for their crap, they’re more than welcome to sell it on the market themselves, and that if they want to sell it “TODAY”, they can offer $X for their crap. Transpose all this to the workplace. The employer is under no obligation to buy your time, and the only reason they would do so is if they can sell their goods/services the employee produced for more than they cost to produce. If he employee wants full market value for the goods/services they produce, they can provide their own means of production, which they obviously haven’t done yet. So.... Back to the question: How do you plan to take it?

@@MMM88X Because again, as Wolff states and even regular economists admit, there is a business cycle. An inevitable economic downturn of varying degrees happens every 7 years or so regardless of what party is in charge. Just look at the last 25 years or so. 2000: Dot Com bubble. 2007-2009: Great Recession. 2020: COVID pandemic recession. That’s 3 in the last 24 years, one every 8 years on average.

That’s more then 35 years ago.. but what can you do..? No child poverty, no college debt, no housing crisis, no worker insecurity. Everything is great in Mr. Varney’s world. You just have to apply yourself you know. Go and apply for about 10 years so the capitalist boss would take care of your income.. he the capitalist would not move your job to China or not give you health coverage. He would make sure everything is in harmony and would make sure he has the responsibility to better the society. What’s he talking about..?!

What I love about this interview is that you can see the interviewer go into panic mode when Richard starts making sense and giving a good description of why his ideas work. The interviewer (who definitely benefits from Capitalism) is trying desperately in this interview to prevent Richard from putting his point across and ultimately prevent people from understanding his message which will ultimately put them on the path to supporting Marxism and destroying capitalism.
