Richard, I bought mine used from Ffordes and never looked back. Works great on the R5 as well as the R3. I did consider the RF 100 - 500 at the time glad I spent that extra £700 as I don’t mind the extra weight, however at the moment in the UK, we have been having very gloomy and damp conditions and even with the R3 focussing has been challenging at best. Love your content as always, Adrian.

Hey Adrian, Thanks for giving me your thoughts on the lens, it really is a beauty and I am so glad I purchased it! Choice out of the RF 1-5 I'd grab the 2-4 but for on the go and weights an issue the 1-5 is a great lens. For an extra £700 that's a steal, well done you. Thanks mate :-)

Hi Richard fantastic video that lens is so versatile especially with a 1.4 built in is amazing, the Hawk was amazing and close to home, I’m amazed of how much wildlife you have there it’s always great to see the Waxwings I’m never that lucky to see them 😂😂, it would be great if canon brought out RF 200-500 with a 1.4 built in,fantastic photos and video footage, thank you for sharing it with us. Martyn

Thanks Martyn, It really is one of those lenses that you can takeout all day, and if on a safari it would be amazing and you'd unlikely be caught out with the reach. Waxwings are so beautiful, haven't seen any since sadly! You never can tell with Canon, keep all things crossed. R

My ongoing theory about why some days are better than others for focus perfection is lighting... I know that colours tend to pop during flat lighting, but I've found that auto focus seems to work best and fastest during early morning sharp angled sun.... maybe it helps form sharp lines or a twinkle in the eyes to lock onto? Also, minimal atmospheric distortion...idk, I'm guessing Love the eastern white pine co-host😂🌲

Thanks jon, got to say earling morning and early evening is always such a better time, that heat haze can play havoc with any lens! Thanks from my Co-host:-) R

SAFETY TIP WHEN CROSSING Boggy marshland .. Use your walking stick to check depth of water / puddles . last thing you want is stepping into waist deep or worse .. Be aware of watery -/ waterlogged mud ... same risk applies above !!! ... Upon that note let's get back to the program !... I've seen a couple of that lense appear on the Wex website sadly out of my financial reach !! I'd defo buy one if i could .. Top Drawer

Cheers Colin, Nice to see you are safety aware and good for others to see the potential dangers, thankfully I know the area quite well so I wouldn't imagine I'd get caught out, but you never can tell, lol. Hope you enjoyed it, and yes still a price to get but if they come down might be worth a look. Cheers R

Very interesting video Richard, it’s a lens I always fancied but I have the EF500 f4 mk2 and I really love it but I find I have the 1.4x converter on nearly all the time! You just always seem to need more reach.
@RichardBirchett13 күн бұрын
Hi Gary, If it was the choice out of the 2-4 or my 500mm F4 MK II is would be the latter, such a beautiful lens and my best prime for sure. Always need the reach, lol.. R

Sweet lens. I wonder how it would compare to the Sigma 150-600 C? Thanks so much Mate!

Thanks Jon, I am hoping to test a few 3rd party lenses in the New Year, maybe a Sigma Prime and Zoom if they let me, lol.. Cheers R
