When I was little,, My Grandma would take us fishing. When we got to the spot, she would get us settled in our spots then she would walk off a ways and fish by herself with just a hook, worm and sometimes a split-shot just a few feet off shore. She would ALWAYS catch the biggest fish.. We named that the Grandma rig and I still use it to this very day. She was by far the best fisherman I ever knew.

I am so glad to see your videos. I have learned so much. I live in an area with almost no accessible creeks or freshwater streams or lakes but you have inspired me to learn anyway about freshwater fishing. Why? Because that’s what I learned using a cane pole and bobber when I was a kid 70 years ago. Old ladies can learn new stuff too.

Much respect for RGTFM. He catches fish because he has confidence he’s gonna catch fish. And, by the way, this water is beautiful. Further, the history books are gonna say he made fishing so easy that aliens must have done it. Just say’n.

I call fishing weightless, fishing naked. Lol. Panfish love the natural presentation & like hitting it on the fall. In clear water, if you can't see your worm set the hook. Sometimes, I'll add a split shot & see if I can catch a bigger panfish off of the bottom. I have caught more of a variety of panfish off off the bottom, if you can get it past the Bluegills. Lol.

We call them rock bass, they have a bigger mouth but looks like a bluegill, they don't grow much bigger than a gill and they will chase a lure. I live in E. ST LOUIS ILL, SOUTHERN ILLINOIS. I ENJOY YOUR SHOW you remind me of my dad, just like you we'd go fishing 2or 3 times a week, he would have all kinds of sayings and you have that touch, good fishing brother

That's r.gene for you just as tickeld on a creek as if he was pulling bass out of the lake also great tip on staying low so as not to spook fish it can mean the difference in catching or not also you mentioned trying not to let the fish swallow your bait if that happens cut the line as close as you can to the hook it gives the fish the best chance to survive

I love to fish for bream of any kind. The only difference is I love the use a fly rod . To me it's the best and I can put it in places you can't reach with a rod and reel.

Mr. Gene, I have lived in N. Alabama (Arab) about 12 yrs, but just recently are free to do some fishing. Not having a boat, I have found it impossible to find good places to fish from the bank, except a few places like Browns Creek causeway. Have not found any "creeks" with road access like the one you are at for this "Creek Fishing The Old Fashioned Way" video. Any ideas or direction you could share would be appreciated so I can take my grandkids Thanks.

I always use a slip jig type setup when fishing with worms/night crawlers 2 #8's about 6 to 8 inches apart and with the worm head up seems to give a great presentation and fish will strike it every time.
