This episode really opened wide the view of what this show was trying to do. Luthen, Mon Mothma, Dedra, the band on Aldani. All great actors in a tight story.

Both the Bear and Andor released in 2022. The Bear in July, Andor in September.

You've said you watched the entire series already so I feel safe in saying that the show does a *brilliant* job making you root for Dedra Meero at first. They even warn you toward the end of the episode when she's congratulated on her detention numbers. Tony Gilroy has said that this was very much deliberate.

People chalk up the ISB’s cold shoulder to Dedra Meero on the account that she’s the only woman in their office. I think it’s partly true, but also because she’s from a middle class. She doesn’t take a private shuttle to ISB, she commutes to work and walks everywhere.

There was another woman visible in the room. But another reason for the apparent cold shoulder she gets is that she's new and it looks like coming to the ISB from "Enforcement" is _not_ a flex. I suspect Enforcement is how people get into Empire service from the lower end of society...like Syril.

This version of Coruscant look so good because they used real locations instead of CGI backgrounds. And, yes, they did shoot in the Scottish highlands. There is a basketful of deep-cut Star Wars references in this episode...none of which is necessary to understand the story, but treats for those who know. This is the way to do fan service. That scene of Luthen "getting into character" was sublime. It took all of five seconds for us to understand the passive-aggressiveness of Syril's mother. Mon Mothma's wardrobe is stunning...consistently. Major Pardegaz exhibited some good management technique. He told Dedra, "No," and pointed out a shortcoming, but he also ended the meeting with a subtle compliment and encouragement.

Everything in this series builds to something. Nothing you see is wasted. The script is tight. The characters, each scene...it's all important and relevant. Andor is a complete story, well thought out, and rewarding. IT rewards attention, analysis, deep consideration. Andor is quite simply well made, and is a highlight of what Star Wars could be, in the right hands.

So many incredible performances in this show. The way Skarsgard switches personalities as he talks with Mon Mothma is remarkable. Even the awful, hateful characters like Mon's husband Perrin or Syril's mother are still interesting and well-acted! Lots of cool trivia in this one! When Andor mentions loads of different Rebel factions and says they're all the same, one of those is The Partisan Front, run by Saw Gerrera, who was also mentioned later of course. Andor mentions he was present for the battle of Mimban - that was the battle Han Solo was sent to during Solo: A Star Wars Story after he joined the Empire in the beginning. Mon Mothma was mostly a background character in the prequels (barring some deleted scenes in Revenge of the Sith) and in the clone wars, but she ultimately ends up in charge of the rebel alliance during the original trilogy! It's so cool that a large part of this story is focused on her! The signet Luthen gives Cassian is a "blue kyber sky stone, made in celebration of the uprising against the Rakatan invaders." - Kyber crystals are of course the ones you find inside lightsabers, but also, the Rakata were an alien race that used to rule the galaxy thousands of years ago, before the republic was formed. It's implied that they were the ones who made the first hyperdrives, and also that they messed with a bunch of alien genetics, which is why there are so many different kinds of humans on different planets and so many near-human species in the galaxy. They first appeared in the video game Knights of the Old Republic! All of the scenes on Aldhani were filmed on location in Scotland, and the base they are targeting is a dam in a real valley! Also, many of the Coruscant scenes were filmed at Canary Wharf in London. As a British star wars fan it's cool to see locations from my country being used! Sly Moore and the other people from the Vizier's private chamber that are attending the dinner at Mon Mothma's house are some of Palpatine's top advisors, seen in the background of a lot of the films. And Luthen's antiques store is rammed full of easter eggs, too many to even list!

Imagine messing up at your job so bad you cost everyone their job AND sunk your place of work 😂 A never thought a single TIE Fighter could be made scary. It’s a lot different on the ground than in a ship that you can destroy it with You haven’t seen much of Mon Mothma. She was basically _the_ leader of the Rebel Alliance. She was in Return of the Jedi for the Death Star II briefing. She has a handful of Clone Wars appearances, mainly non speaking. I think she was at Padme’s funeral in Tales of the Jedi. She was actually cast for Revenge of the Sith with _this_ actress for a subplot that was ultimately deleted. Her, Padme, Bail, and some other senators laid the groundwork for opposing Palpatine that would eventually become the Rebellion Easter eggs galore in that shop! Holocrons, a kel dor mask (like Plo Koon), a wookiee horn that was gonna be in Revenge of the Sith but never used, beskar armor, and a helmet that looks exactly like sith stalker armor from DLC of Force Unleashed! And a couple others I can’t say because spoilers 😅

Mon Mothma : Who is she ? -> She's a senator. The same actress appears in the deleted scenes of Episode 3, when she talks with Padmé and Bail Organa. During the time of the Republic, Padmé, Mon Mothma and Bail Organa were allies. We also see Mon Mothma several times in the series "The Clone War", notably in the investigative episodes on assaults & murders within the Senate (with the crapy police officer). We see Mon Mothma again (the same actress) in the film "Rogue One", where she leads the rebellion. She is the one who speaks with Jin Erso in particular. She is also in "Rebels", and we see Mon Mothma again during episode 6: “Return of the Jedi”. She is the one who gives the briefing on the attack on the Death Star with Admiral Ackbar (We notice that the older actress from the old films really looks a lot like the younger actress from the new episodes and series). Mon Mothma is known for creating the Rebel Alliance. In the Expanded Universe books, she is also Leia's "political" mentor, and the president of the new republic after the defeat of the Empire. He is therefore a major character in the lore.

I adore the way this series shows what it takes to foment rebellion and build collective action and that's what I tend to remember and focus on, but the perspective on the banality and bureaucracy of evil is fascinating as well. It's just such a pleasure to see a well-rounded complete story play out --and in this universe as well where most other projects are simplistic disappointments. What you're talking about wrt government is exactly why change can't be made from within these power structures. Having to bow to the status quo to keep their seat at the table maintains the status quo.

The first three episodes were a great introduction, but this was when I really started to get how special the show was. We see so many things that feel "new" to Star Wars. People hiking over green hills in ponchos and then being afraid of a TIE Fighter, which actually sounds scary. The internal affairs of The Empire's military bureaucracy. Regular people's apartments and antique stores in Coruscant. These smaller scale perspectives make Star Wars feel so much more believable than it ever had been.

Excellent reaction. This was my favourite show from 2022, along with Severance. The writing is phenomenal. Absolutely love Luthen's character and how he's playing a part in Coruscant no less, along with Mon Mothma! Really cool that they 'brought her back' from SW ep 6. Just a wonderful hint of some of the inner workings of the beginning of a greater rebellion. This is probably the best Star Wars anything, maybe after Ep 5, and yes better than Mandalorian I daresay. An amazing blend of action, politics, spy stuff. Again, enjoying these reactions and looking forward to the next one. Im done this comment. loll

This was a UK-based production, and the Aldhani scenes were indeed filmed in Scotland. Many of the cast are drawn from the London theatre scene, including Denise Gough (Dedra Meero) and Kyle Soller (Syril Karn). They bring a different calibre of performance thanks to their UK theatre training.

This series expandes the franchise in a mulitude of ways: the subtle, secret political manuvers that covertly fund and inspire rebellions. The aura of distrust and isolation these small, disperate local rebel cells have towards outsiders who enter their network. The bureaucratic, mundane office work the I.S.B., or Imperial Security Bureau, Officers go through, keeping the galaxy in order through board meetings and office politics intrigue. Personal and professional rivalries blending together to creat a toxic work enviorment where co-operation is seen as a weakness to be exploited... All this and more to come!

Great reaction! I don't think the cast discussion below is spoilery - but skip over if you don't want to take any chances. The cast are all that you've already seen, with one exception that would definitely not spoil anything at all when they do show up. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- You'll notice some familiar faces in this show from 'Game of Thrones'. Anton Lesser (Qyburn), Faye Marsay (The Waif), Bronte Carmichael, (Martha), Rupert Vansittart, (Yohn Royce), plus a few others. When I first saw Fay Marsay (Vel Sartha), show up in 'Andor', I had an irrational and powerful "I absolutely, definitely don't like her...at all!" reaction to her. Then my visceral reaction to her made complete sense to me as I'd previously seen her repeatedly torment and beat the stuffing out of Arya Stark in 'Game of Thrones' in the House of Black and White, and outside the House in the streets. It's a testament to the spectacular writing and acting in 'GOT', as I STILL harbour resentment towards her "Waif" character all these years later! She was SO MEAN to Arya! 'Andor', for me, is one of those shows I have on a very special, (internally tracked), personal list that I consider 'Beloved'. Others include 'The Leftovers', HBO's 'Watchmen', 'The Last of Us', 'Devs', 'Midnight Mass', 'Station Eleven'', 'The Expanse'. There's a few other I can't recall off the top of my head, but it's not a long list. These shows were intelligent, yet they managed to hit me like an arrow to the heart and eventually made me sob. Sometimes sobbing with both sadness and joy. I consider that fine art. I'm really enjoying your thoughtful reactions to this show - thank you!

Hey, Imon! MIMBAN, the battle Cassian fought in, was the muddy world from "Solo" the Imperials were pacifying. Cassian fought for the Empire as a conscript! The expensive crystal pendant Luthen loaned Cassian commemorated the uprising against the RAKATAN INFINITE EMPIRE which was the first galaxy-spanning civilization unfortunately ruled by a species of vicious Dark Side Force adepts who were eventually overthrown! SAW GERRERA namedrop! SLY MOORE, the female Umbaran aide to Palpatine seen in Congressional scenes in the Prequels is mentioned as a dinner guest by Mon Mothma's hubby! SCARIF, the tropical world at the end of "Rogue One" is mentioned. MON MOTHMA, the Chandrilan Senator from "Clone Wars", "Rebels", "Rogue One" and "Return of the Jedi" is played again by Genevieve O'Reilly who portrayed her in "Rogue One" and a deleted scene from "Revenge of the Sith". She was originally played by Caroline Blakiston in "Return of the Jedi". She is Palpatine's successor as Chancellor of the New Republic which will be based out of her homeworld CHANDRILA.

One tiny blink and you'll miss it moment is when Mon Mothma comes into Luthen's store with a new driver, when she mentions the reason for being there, to get a gift for her husband, she visibly nods and motions towards her driver as if explaining to him, showing Luthen that her new driver isn't of Corellian descent, not a loyalist from her home, and thus she tips off to Luthen and Leida not to trust the driver and be extra careful around him. It's this tiny tiny detail that you wouldn't notice until a rewatch, but it just shows how incredibly thought out the writing for this series was, for them to put that in, knowing that most of audiences will miss it the first time.
