As violent and trigger prone Richie Aprile was, I get the sense that he didn't really start shit with people who weren't involved in the life. He even tried to go relatively easy on David at first (he tells him to not come around any more games until he repays his debt, we all know how that went). And it's not as unrealistic as it sounds. F.B.I agent Joe Pistone said that most of the mafia members and associates he ran with, even the particularly violent ones, were cordial to people who weren't involved in the street life. Only one guy, Tony Mirra, was an asshole and bully to civilians. On one podcast Pistone talked about how he was waiting in line with Mirra to use a payphone, Mirra got impatient, and threw the guy out of the booth. And there were other incidents where he would harass waitstaff at restaurants and bars. Needless to say, Mirra's death was no great loss to society.

‘That’s alright, take it easy kid’ for a second the way he said that made me think he’s actually a nice guy.
@GabrielNicho2 жыл бұрын
What did Richie do that made him a bad guy? Other than hitting Janice after a long series of frustrations. It's insinuated that Beansie is the guy that ratted on him, and that's why Beansie is being avoidant. The Sopranos doesn't spell things out for you. But I mean Richie is a guy that wants revenge (Beansie), makes mistakes (coke on garbage routes), gives away a Jacket, and after he feels disrespected by Tony he wants a change in management that he later abandons when he realizes he can't muster the support. Did I forget something major?
@simonriley41312 жыл бұрын
@@GabrielNicho Beansie didn't rat Richie out, if he did, he'd be dead. Beansie was part of a heroin operation with Richie before his incarceration, and when Richie wound up in prison, Beansie used his share to start up his pizza business, without paying Richie any points. And, to add insult to injury, he didn't pay his respects to Richie while he was locked up
@GabrielNicho2 жыл бұрын

If you watch closely at the beginning of the scene, the way Beansie snaps his fingers viciously at the guy behind the counter in my opinion is a subtle not to the way Beansie treats the average man. Probably went around power-tripping and treating people like shit. Notice the way Beansie tries to par off Richie's aggression onto the innocent kid, but instead Richie stays strictly business. Beansie is a snake and should have expected this, though Rich goes too far later this seems fair enough.
@MrRiddleAW7 жыл бұрын
You might have a point. I was wondering what he snapped his fingers for, but I thought he did it because he was enjoying the mood or something. You know a nice friendly atmosphere with nice music playing in the background, and Beansie playing the nice owner to the customers. But on a closer look he does give off a vibe that he might not be a nice boss.

He had such fury, he was in fact the most furious character of them all, Phil was more bitter rage stemming from wounded pride but Richie was just pure malice borne out of nowhere, born mobster who loved getting his hands dirty. Imagine what things would have been like if Jackie Aprile was still alive and acting boss when Richie got out of prison. I think it would have made the rivalry between Richie and Tony all the more better. Personally I think they could have held off on Jackie's death for a later time in the show.
@KS-xk2so3 жыл бұрын
Honestly It would probably end up being Jackie with Tony's help trying to control asshole Richie. Rich would've become capo of his crew again, but Tony and Jackie, his kid brother and his brothers friend, were now his boss, and his equal. It would probably be more like Feech La Mana. Just an old pain in the ass, that they eventually get rid of without killing, lol

I like that Richie treats regular civilians and family members of his associates with the utmost respect, yet absolutely ruthless with other criminals and associates if they are in his way. The way he just reassures and politely declines the unnecessary attention from the part timer that Beansie is trying to use placate him. If he toned down his aggression just a tad with the other made guys or business associates he might have been more respected and could have realistically usurped Tony for his position. Obviously him quick jabbing Janice was out of line but.... I mean she was extremely manipulative and brought out the worst in him.
