Richie Aprile floats the idea of taking out Tony. Junior sees right through it and realizes Janice is putting ideas in Richie's head.

1:25, Junior starts analyzing Richie and wondering where these 'ideas' are suddenly coming from. 1:48, Junior says 'how dare you', looking over to where Janice might be, and Richie keeps going unfazed Janice could be listening about her brother being wacked. 1:58, Junior realizes Janice is in on this plan and likely the mastermind. Junior is a great character. It's not just that he's colorful and charismatic. He's such a believable and complex person. He's sharp as a tack, but also insecure, greedy, and vindictive to the point that he's not effective as a leader in the Mafia. He's theatrically flirtatious around young women, has a great sense of humor and a powerful singing voice, and is more Italian than the other Italian-Americans around him. He loves his nephew, whom he also tried to have killed, and hates his niece...

So many subtle nuances you miss in this show if your not careful and that’s why it’s so great. When junior emphasizes in my own home with his eyes he is basically telling Ritchie to shut up bc Janice in the other room, and Richie not caring and being emboldened enough to repeat the statement tips junior off that he may already have discussed this with Janice and she is either okay with it or wants it to happen and is egging Ritchie on. For some reason, I don;t think Junior's outrage here was 'fake' when he was asking /telling Ritchie, "How dare you in my own home". Junior essentially loved Tony, at least more than his own mother did. Junior 'only' tried to have Tony killed because Tony had deliberately tried to undermine Junior's position as boss, and Junior was forced to act in order to preserve his honor as the boss. If not it would have made him appear weak as a leader, not only to the capos in New Jersey, but also to New York, and there's no telling what consequences that could have had, even to his physical safety. Richie on the other hand doesn't have any such attachment to Tony, nor is he left in as much of a dilemma. He is just trying to essentially manipulate Junior into killing his nephew because he wants to take over the family, and Junior knows it.
@heroedeleyenda055 жыл бұрын
Indont know man. I think junior was doing a balancing act. I think the "how dare you" was fake on purpose. Junior was playing both fields and testing Ritchie out. He wanted Ritchie to believe he was on his side, but when Richie couldn't rally enough troops junior decided to jump back onto tonys side. I think at this point in the show junior still saw Ritchie as an option for a leader. They shared a lot in common, theyre both old school,so they appreciate the old school way of doing things. they have similar standards, they have a common history, they both felt fucked by tony. In this scene junior is letting Ritchie know that he is considering his offer to take tony out but also wants to warn him thst janice is manipulating him and she should be his first priority

Junior doesn't really encourage Richie until Tony interferes with his coke income. He's more interested in money at this point, given his legal situation. But if Richie replaced Tony, Junior would profit from a larger share of the family's earnings and have a street boss who would take orders occasionally, making him less of a front. Still, he's pretty quick to abandon the idea when it doesn't look like Richie can hold up his end of the bargain.

He basically is. It's all but stated in the long run Jnr was always the better man to Tony than his own father. He took extra care of him when JB was a negligent father at best. It's why Tony surpassing him hurts him so much because in his eyes Tony may as well be his son.

Its interesting how Junior's temper flares here when Richie talks about whacking Tony. He calms down pretty quickly, and then later in the series when Richie brings it up, Junior plays along so that he can warn Tony. Junior was a great character. Hilarious and a criminal mastermind.

Junior knew that it was Janice putting thoughts into Riches head. Thats why junior warned Richie about his little niece. He knew Richie was too old school to talk reckless about subversives. Janice was in Richies ear and Janice was the one who in the end killed him. Junior saw it coming a mile away
