Great version of the Bill Withers song "Lean On Me" by the great Richie Havens. Check out "Tupelo Honey-Just Like A Woman" and "High Flyin' Bird" on corporalhenshaw

Why has Richie Havens not been nominated into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. The first artist to take the stage at Woodstock should have the recognition he deserves. Should have happened when he was still alive. Great man, great music. We shall not see his like again.

I exchanged emails with this fine man back in the autumn of 2000. I was feeling nostalgic (again 🤣, happens a lot) one evening and thought about seeing Richie in concert my freshman year at the U. of Dayton. Me and 4 of my dormitory mates snuck into the U. of Dayton Arena via an exit door and made it to the floor where we actually sat in front of the stage. He and his mates were no farther than 15 feet away. It was great and I told him in my email 30 years later that it was around the same time of year and that I would remember that night forever. He was very kind to write back and he did so promptly that he was glad I had a very happy memory of him.

I saw him at the Atlanta Rock Festival in 1970, my husband to be met him at Howard University and he blessed our marriage and went to see him the year my husband died. Made it to the dressing room and spent a wonderful evening with him and Paul Williams. Later I saw him in Alaska and spent another great evening with him. I will forever cherish the memories of him and Paul Williams. The world is lonely without him!!!

I had the pleasure of interviewing him in 1970 for my HS newspaper; he was a wonderful soul and such a peaceful individual. He was kind and respectful to this rather nerdy photographer. RIP Richie; your music is timeless and never sounded better.

i have loved him since i was a kid, putting my mothers record on a kids little green player. Many years later, I had the chance to see him in a small venue Proctors Theatre, Schenectady, NY - the same year my beloved mother passed away. It was an amazing full circle moment.

Since he was in Brazil, in the early 70s (when I was 14 years old), I started to like HR performances a lot and I have practically everything that was available from his work. I love all and in particular, "San Francisco Bay Blues" live . Unfortunately he was gone and, with him, a person of high spirits and peaceful, a wonderful voice, a special way of tuning the guitar, a special beat on the strings of his GUILD guitar. Thanks to RH. May God keep him, wherever he is.

It has been for only 2 weeks I got to know Ritchie Havens and I must say him playing the guitar is true revelation to me. He has a very authentic way of holding his guitar. Sometimes it is as if he becomes one with his instrument.

When i was 15 & 18, i visited s.f., again, & both times i met 'richie havens' or his look-alikes, such happy, friendly, kind souls to me: 1) one worked at 'The Haven,' (the coolest sandwhich shop i have EVER been to, b/c the food was really great & ALL the people having a great time), & we both laughed, b/c i was right at home, & 2) one drove a trolly with his whole body, all the throttles, & astounded me... s.f., always used to be that something was happening there to one's own, very soul.♡

@ Peter Doyle look around right now man. Who's really "got it"? I don't see anybody showing much realness, feeling or depth in music. If they are, there is no spotlight shining on them. As a brother, I'm glad somebody, anybody, posted this video of one talented brother covering another talented brother's music. Let's not oversimplify the race question. How many black people you think are watching this video? By the the way, check the documentary Still Bill about Bill Withers.
