Saturn has a similar system. I own 3 and all have the air pump. California emissions system.The passages in the exhaust manifold get plugged up with carbon but the diverter valve is the weak link there. Kind of pricey too if you can’t find a good used one at Pull a Part. Thanks again Rich for making the videos. I enjoy watching. My daughter lives in South Hadley. Maybe I’ll be able to meet you some day and buy you that beer.

When it comes to a stuck key there no easy fix, sometimes a little wd-40 and a lot of patience might get it loose.

Look at all that stuff under the hood...those Focuses must be a challenge to work on. Solenoid-activated vacuum seems really old school...would you agree?

Thanks. To rule in/out Smog Pump or Relay, without jumpering, know pump will only come on for a few seconds & only on a cold start (not warm). In CA we cant pass smog with any bypass or open codes (except EVAP). Disconnect the intake hose at the front of the check valve, cold- start, and the pump should come on for only a few seconds. Also, careful with brittle vacuum lines, check for any leaks triggering codes & CEL. Replaced my check valve, solenoid & relay with salvaged parts. Code only cleared after car sat for 8 hours with a cold-start. "Air" Code on OBD2 did NOT clear in the 120 miles I drove back after getting and putting on those part, even with a +dozen start/stop cycles! Took a cold start. Not sure which part was bad, but I am not so sophisticated in my skills. For 2.3L Fusion the parts online are about $120 for the parts & comes with: the bracket, check valve, solenoid & vacuum lines. Try looking it up :2006-2010, Dorman 911-167 6E52-9F491-AA Secondary Air Injection Check Valve 6S43-9F491-AA Relay F808B-14B192-AA Solenoid 6L34-9H465-BA Not sure about other engine sizes.

Smashing repair rich :-D, "Double Trouble" When you said air pump i sort of knew it had something to do with feeding air in to the exhaust, but i didn't know what the reason was. Some kind of compensation at the O2 sensor? Dodgy devices lol.
