A good summary made by user Mike C from the full podcast: "Here's my summary of this 2 hour video: Nimai Delgado was vegetarian from birth and, when he was first introduced to the concept of veganism, he was immediately turned off by the condescending attitude of a vegan activist 39:57 . But then he went vegan when his mom shared a video about what goes on in dairy farms 41:28 . He went to his first bodybuilding competition (International Natural Bodybuilding Association - Men's Physique), won 1st place in all of the categories where he competed 57:17 , and then decided to help other people be vegan bodybuilders 1:01:00 . He earned his Pro Card in 2017, by getting 1st place at the USA Championships - Men’s Physique Class C 1:11:29 and now he's training for the Olympia title 1:12:53 . The benefits of a vegan diet are better digestion and a faster recovery time 1:02:12 . Nimai's passion for spreading veganism really started when a random person told him that he saved his mom's life, who was suffering from diabetes 1:15:22 . He weighs 180 lbs and keeps his protein intake between 150 g and 160 g 1:37:47 . He gets 20-25% of calories from fat and 50-60% of calories from carbs, and avoids oil and highly processed vegan food 1:42:45 . He supplements his diet with protein powder, BCAA's, Vitamin D3, Vitamin B12, Omega 3 fatty acids DHA and EPA, and sometimes creatine 1:45:15 . He never took steroids 1:48:35. "

Of course he takes steroids, or some other form of performance enhancing drugs, the guy is shredded. You can't get an IFBB card naturally, it's just not possible, and even if you hypothetically could there's no way you could compete against other bobybuilders in the IFBB because they're all on performance enhancing drugs. Not discrediting veganism by any means, there's no reason why you can't build muscle on a well balanced vegan diet, but the guy is lying or being dishonest.

Yeah, I saw those farm videos too. I've recently sworn off any factory farm type meats. The only time I eat animal products are eggs from 100% certified free range chickens, wild caught fish, and grass fed cow butter/cheese. Once in a blue moon, I might eat land animals, but they have to be grass fed and finished, certified humane. But that's not often. I can't in good conscience eat abused animals. Besides that, I refuse to pay money to buy malnourished and diseased foods. I need to learn more about this vegan thing before I can make the dive.

It's a very misleading, disingenuous, unscientific vegan propaganda movie, and if it only took that to change your mind on veganism then you clearly didn't bother questioning any of the claims they made. It's very persuasive to people who don't know any better. "There are plenty of muscular athletes who eat vegan." I know, I didn't say you can't build muscle on a vegan diet, in fact I said completely the opposite in my first comment. "Nate Diaz kicked McGregors ass in UFC and he eats mostly vegan." So what? In India, you could make a complete vegan meal plan with 21 different items giving you 125 g of protein and 2450 calories at just $2.25 a day. If you could spend $3.20 a day, you could add protein powder and boost that to 150 g of protein and 2600 calories. An extra scoop would make that 175g and take your budget to $3.75 a day. Or take a quart of milk a day, you could get the same amount of protein and calories that for under $3.50. Caevat : You will have to cook on your own. No restaurants. You should have a fully functioning home already. :) It gets better, you could cut down the rice to give you under 2000 calories but still with 110 g protein without the protein powder at $2.00 per day and 140g with it at $3.00 per day. You could even starve diet at a mere 1400 calories and still get 95g of protein without the protein powder ($1.25 a day) and 120 g of protein with the protein powder ($2.25 a day). If I add the milk, you get some calories, but it's cheaper than protein powder. Not enough yet? I could survive on $50 for a month there and lose weight happily. There are places in the world where vegan eating is the cheapest option of 'em all.

Great clip. But just wanted to point out that the amount Delgado consumes is NOT what the USDA recommends (which is what Roll thought). That's only around 0.7g/ KILOGRAM which is much lower than the 0.8 to 0.9g/ POUND of lean body mass that Delgado talks about. You'll still be consuming a lot much more protein than the USDA recommendation, which is a good thing for bodybuilders since their requirements are certainly higher.

For me, the best plant protein to replace lean meats are tofu, tempeh, and especially seitan (wheat gluten)
@MrBoxingcrazysal3 жыл бұрын
I'll give you a meal of mine. You make a bed of 1 cup quinoa, you add 1 cup chickpeas, 1 cup mixed green leafy vegetables, and seitan which is 43g protein. This whole meal is roughly 600-800 calories, with about 80g protein.

Very curious. This type of knowledge is so interesting to me. If you're only consuming .9 of your lean muscle mass, how much carbs, fats, and fibers are you consuming? I believe there is so much talk on protein, yet nothing on these other important macros.

@MikeEnRegalia6 жыл бұрын
do you know what bone is mostly made of?
@patrickvanmeter29226 жыл бұрын
Mainly collagen and yes that is a protein. I don't think your bones grow much when you are full grown. So, do you know how much a human skeleton weighs? Muscle protein can be used by the body for fuel which means it goes away. The skeleton will be their even when you are decomposed or dead. I'm splitting hairs here but there doesn't seem to be an exact amount of protein needed for an individual. How much protein does a 180# bodybuilder need to support his sleleton? I'm just saying it is still guess work.
