I'm glad I found your video. "It's ok to be rich....we can help others". I love that statement. As a social worker, I think we need to change our view of money, our worth, and investing in ourselves. Your statement reminds of an old saying, "how can I help others, if I can't help myself". As I get older my views on social worker, finance, and investing are changing.

Thanks so much! Feel free to share your link to that video here in this thread. My goal is to be a catalyst to empower as many people as possible to subscribe to this thinking - that "poverty is no virtue, wealth is no sin." So glad to have you on the channel!

I'm so excited that I ran into your channel! I've been binge watching your videos! I have my masters in social work and I'm a LSW. I'm also a young adult author of two books. I decided to use my social work skills to start my own nonprofit called Distinctively Me to empower adolescent black girls in underserved communities. I now want to expand my income so this video was right on time! I want to write a workbook to help support girls with anxiety, depression and trauma and I also want to provide therapy outside of my nonprofit. I started my nonprofit straight out of school so outside of my internships, which mostly provides workshops on various mental health issues, I don't have a lot of experience with individual or family therapy. Any suggestions on where to start? And as a LSW, am I eligible for a NPI? Any feedback would help. Thank you.

This is great information! Being relatable is SO important! I believe this goes hand in hand with the core social work tenet of “meeting the client there they are.” This also applies to connecting with target audiences, etc. Thank you!

What resonated with me, was words by Stedman Graham. Its not about black and white, racism or being the victim. Its about getting in front of the challenge, gettinf out of your comfort zone. I absolutely love Brene Brown, I had the pleasure of taking classes wirh her at U of H.

Thank you for sharing. After 28 yrs as a social worker, I have come to realize that we, in general, were conditioned to not have love and appreciation for money or decent compensation for our work. Well, I have changed my mindset!!!

It's a sad but true reality, Angella. But, thankfully, times are changing and more and more social workers are changing their mindsets as well. The more of us that adopt a wealth mentality, the better it is for us, the profession and our clients. It's a win-win-win! Thanks for your comment and for being here!

I am a Jamaican and recently moved to Canada and planning to start my MSW soon but I always heard that Social Workers don't make money and it is very stressful. But I thought there must be a way to help people and live a financially comfortable life. I would know that the Masters would provide me with alot of socially transferrable skills that I believe can be used to generate avenues for living the life I want. I wasn't sure of how I use them

I have needed a social worker and case management for at least since I graduated from high school in the Midwest with honors and especially the last twelve years that I became permanently disabled from medical negligences and medical abuse all these black social worker men and women on you tube talking about these issues within their field and yet all the money I have had and I have not been able to obtain one great social worker or case manager to advocate for me to help me out of the Midwest and from enduring all this racist oppressive Exploitative abuse.

None of these people are practicing social work. That's the key. They have social work degrees but got into a different field early on. I want out after 30 years. I can't stand it anymore.
@RichSocialWorker
@RichSocialWorker 4 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry if your experience has been disparaging for you, but the point of the video is that these people are using the skills that they acquired from social work and you can too. After 30 years your perspective and knowledge are extremely valuable. Even if you leave the traditional field of social work, you get to take those skills with you and can use them to create the life you REALLY want.

Hi Emilie and thanks for your comment. The great thing about having a social work degree is that it gives you the latitude to work in many ways. The goal if this channel and video is to highlight that fact. What goals do you have in relation to social work or building wealth?
