More than anything, social workers want to earn more income to increase their impact, but too often our knowledge is limited to what we learn in social work. In order for social workers to earn more, they need to leave social work to learn the principles of money.

While social workers may be great at helping others, we're not always so great at helping ourselves when it comes to earning what we so aptly deserve. In this video I share three big areas where social workers need to spend time learning so that they can leverage the skills that they have and give/be/do more!

Social work is such a vast field. You can work in Hospital's, Government (mental health, social services. Public Health, probation, etc). In LA the county pay is great and can be very rewarding. You can also work in higher education as a counselor or Advisor and you can also work in the Private Sector (H.R, CSR, & Public Relations), and Private Practice. So much you can do with it but it's up to you how you make it benefit you. My minor is Entrepreneurship and it is greatly compliments Social Work

Very good advice and it’s so true. I think social work and business compliments each other well, and we as social workers, should make it a point to get that business exposure!

Thank you for this content. I consider myself a macro Social Worker so I understand what Social Work looks like outside the direct service with individuals. Looking forward to learning more on how I can maximize my skillet to market myself to employers who may not understand my degree's relevance.

Hello fellow social workers . We are skilled and like to make a difference , unfortunately so as the other helping professions we tend to attract people who need our help on a personal level which can deplete our resources , we need to focus more on us and invest our money wisely .

Very cool to hear, Jim! D'ya mind sharing the area of SW you're in? I'm sure others would love to know. And I'd be curious to know if/how you've used your banking and business knowledge to inform either your investments or work (no pressure).

@@RichSocialWorker : I assist clients with employment. I write resumes , cover letters, assist with interviewing, labor market information. I create connections with employers all the time for clients. I talk to bank recruiters to fill teller positions. Many of my clients receive bank teller training from the free YWCA Bank Works training programs. I also have reached out to hotels, cruise companies and Microsoft to fill positions. Many of the positions are entry level but what a great way to start!
