@@RichSocialWorker I graduated from university in June 2021. I have been participating in various certificate programs for 1 year and improving myself. I want to improve myself in the social work profession and take part in the international platform. For this reason, I research topics such as social responsibility projects and social entrepreneurship. My dream is to be the manager of an international social service organization! 😊

Hello, I am so glad I found your channel. I am a LMSW with a Certification to be a Bariatric Counselor. I was told by the State Board that cannot use this certification until I become an LCSW. It is difficult to find my footing in this field. I feel like I am being held back and stuck working with various populations. I have ideas but I need guidance. Yes I would live to right a book. Yes I would love to have a group for clients who are contemplating weightloss surgery. But I feel trapped at times. I am not making the money that I should in order to support myself. I got my Master's Degree in 2013 and I feel like I am going nowhere fast. Help !!!!!

Hello, thank you so much for your time here sharing your experiences. Please tell us more about writing a book and self-publishing. I am a social worker and I want to write about my violent experience fro sexual abuse as a child, growing up with an alcoholic mother, surviving racism in Pennsylvania, and surviving domestic violence relationships. After these experiences, I worked hard to take control of my life and destroy my victim mentality mindset. But I did not take the advice, support, or recommendations from anyone until I was ready. I want to make a book for those that are ready to leave the victim mentality mindset.

Bless you! And thanks so much for your comment and for being here. I'll definitely share my process about writing my book as soon as I can, but in the meantime I would encourage you to start thinking about the result or feeling that you want your readers to have once they've finished reading your book. Do you want them to feel empowered? Informed about resources? Cautious for their safety? I wanted my readers to feel like we were having a pleasant conversation that was also inspiring and uplifting. I modeled the format after a few books that I enjoyed reading and I wrote a book that I also wanted to read. If you can make an outline of your possible chapters with that guidance, you'll be well on your way to completing your masterpiece. I look forward to supporting you!

@@RichSocialWorker Wow! Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to me with such powerful advice. I really appreciate it. For me, I want my story to be a light for someone else who may be going through a dark place, or recently left a dark place and need that support to keep pushing forward. I want readers to walk away saying, wow someone else has felt the same as me and I no longer feel embarrassed or ashamed by my story. I want my readers to feel inspired to live, feel, and tell their own truths with no judgment. I think I want this for my readers because there have been times in my past when I could not be my authentic self because of how ashamed I felt by my history of trauma. I am so glad that you helped me get this out my brain and in writing. This is the start of something big. Im going to for sure tell all my social worker colleagues about you! Very uplifting advice 100%

Quite interesting video.... The problem is that I have a social work degree from Greece and I live in UK. I wanted to work as a social worker here, but I need to register with HCPC otherwise I do not have the right to practice social work here in the UK. To register at HCPC they ask me to do an Ielts test in English and score 7.0. I have done the test many times and I get 6.5 every time.... I am a bit disappointed that I can not practice social work. Watching this video makes me motivated to find other ways to practice social work, but I am not sure if I can do this here, because I am not HCPC registered..... 😕

One of the things I've always loved about having a social work degree is all of the many skills it helps you to develop that can be parlayed into aligned work, not necessarily under the title of "social work." Keep watching - the video coming out next week will speak more specifically to what other social workers have done to leverage their knowledge and skills, and you can too!

Rich Social Worker I feel stuck when it comes to writing a book. I have started one - but stopped because I feel like I don’t know what to do about the logistics. I have the chapters listed and all but I became fearful about the editing and publishing piece. For number 4 I would love to know more about writing grants. I am currently in my last year of graduate school and I haven’t taken any courses on grant writing in my life. I’m in school for my MSW 🤗 Not sure what I would be able to write grants for but I believe it’s a skill I would love to have.
