Bossman Jones told Ali directly to his face after being Foreman's sparring partner that he was betting on George!! This made Ali train more seriously.

True. And Ali hired him. Superb decision. Helped him a lot for his fight against George. Ali was the greatest in his mind, body and soul.

Went to Deer Lake a few weeks ago, the caretaker Mic was awesome and gave us some background info and tour. Shout out to Michael Madden, son of Coach Madden of Oakland Raider fame for putting up the money to save and renovate this piece of boxing history. If you are a boxing fan or an Ali fan you must go. Camp is free to enter and a donation is suggested to help maintain the property

WOW. Never got to deer Lake. I used to see and read magazines about the rocks with names on them. In 1974, Larry Holmes beat the snot out of Ali sparring there for Foreman.
@anthony8362 Жыл бұрын
I've seen alot of video footage of Ali and Larry Holmes sparring from 1971-75 a guy in Hackensack NJ have probably the largest amount of film with Ali sparring. And i think he will be sell it soon. in the early 70s Holmes could not hang with Ali when Ali put his foot down. and around 76 Ali started slowing down rather quickly, that's when Holmes progressed, but in 1972-74 Ali could whip Holmes I saw it. Ali new how to get on the inside and fight Holmes and Holmes stood straight up he didnt move the upper body much Ali new how to take advantage of Holmes and Holmes knew it.but in 1980 Ali had gone so far down hill there was nothing there any more! The sickness set in. he knew what could have been done to Holmes but at that point he just didn't have the boxing material to do it anymore

Hey Rich, Do you have an opinion on why there is so little footage of the late great Ezzard Charles? Is this lack of footage making him less endearing to the people despite being so overly accomplished? He beat (the also great) Archy Moore 3 times, but difference in love the 2 get is immense
@RichtheFightHistorian2 жыл бұрын
I've never thought about that. Charles was a quiet and modest guy. Fighters of that personality type are overlooked a lot, like Andre Ward, for example. Moore was a lot more gregarious and media friendly so perhaps that is the reason. I'd have to think about that a bit more.

True Dat, I think the footage here is Ali training for the Foreman fight in the Rumble in the Jungle. To face Foreman, U really have to be built like a tank, because Big George has Termonuclear bombs in each hand.
