I think one of the most important things about this episode is that at the very end, Morty conquers his fear. Before, almost every other fear was just acknowledging that he had a fear or making up a fear to try and get out of the hole. But recognizing a fear is different from defeating it.
@atienzo98

Nux saying the season finale ties into the next season makes me believe that this is Evil Morty's true starting point. All other Morty's are dependent on Rick, but if this Morty was forced to conquer his true fear then he no longer needs Rick and might even think about leaving the Finite Curve all together.
@Yipper64
@Yipper64 Жыл бұрын
@@atienzo98I suppose that's possible. Like since he conquered that fear he was later able to get sick of Rick abusing him. The only thing I dont like about that theory is the ending, the ending showed that this Rick truly cares for his Morty... It also tells us a lot about who he thinks his grandpa was and is, if you listen to the stories during that same conversation and the way that Rick starts off acting/ends up saving him. @@TheEcoolarg I have thought that the explanation for why Ricks keep Mortys is kind of suspect. The brain waves of a Morty is the perfect inverse of a Rick's brain waves and that is used to mask Rick's brain waves. The diagram that was shown to prove that was a waveform diagram with two identical sine waves, where one is just offset by 50%. If the sine waves were synced it would have shown that they have identical brain waves, therefore they both think the same. If that is the case then the difference in their intelligences is more likely to be a question of nurture and not nature, as in Rick seems more intelligent in comparison because he is older, more educated, and has more experience. While Morty just lacks those three qualities. In addition, Mortys might also have a dependence on Ricks that prevent their mental development.

I really enjoyed that we saw one ep conquer how Rick feels after he finally got his revenge, and how Morty maybe processing what happens next. I loved the layers of figuring out what the main fear was while realizing there isn't an end to fear. Even when Morty sometimes voiced wanting to go to school, have a normal life, Rick was dominate in how Morty spends his time. And the sad realistic fact Morty faces that he's both afraid Rick doesn't need him, but also has become so accustom to Rick being there; really hits hard here. Also lol come on you couldn't give poopy butthole a win somewhere? The man be suffering all along. Even if he starts over in a different timeline, how can he be sure he won't break up with his wife again some how?

I think it's cute that Morty fears that Rick doesn't care about him to the degree that he would just let him die and replace him, and him accepting and being okay with it and leaving us the audience with the idea that "yeah Rick would just watch he wouldn't care enough to go in" Only for the show to immediately have Rick give an understandable answer for why he didn't jump in and then, to prove Rick really does care, has him pull out an old folded picture to commemorate his grandson conquering the hole. If Rick didn't care, he wouldn't have a folded picture of his Grandson in his wallet. He really does love his family for real and it's a shame the rest of them don't really see that cuz of how aloof he is. He can't really have them feel the love, but every time he says it he means it, as he's likely the only Rick that ever does.

The scariest thing is that you can live an entire good life. Then the moment you die you come out of the hole and no time has passed. After you conquer that fear a few lifetimes later your greatest fear will be leaving the hole.

So I think this fits if we view the entire season as a season building to this finale. The entire season just hammers the idea of how Morty is replaceable. He is literally replaced in almost every single episode (Summer, Jerry, Wong, Evil Morty, etc.) except the one where he's solo and that episode is awful. Now that Nux has mentioned it, I think this is a perfect season finale BECAUSE of the repercussions for their relationship. I don't wanna have to write a whole essay about it, but I think it can be summed up as: Morty doesn't have to be Evil Morty to stop caring about how Rick thinks about him. And now that we might get a Morty that is still morally good but fully detach himself from Rick's Rickness, perhaps it'll finally be Evil Morty's character foil, because among his many accomplishments, he cannot really say that he hs achieved anything he had done that is fully free from Rick's influence.
@Birthday888
@Birthday888 Жыл бұрын
Definitely. For all that Evil Morty says he was sick of being around Rick, he only managed to escape by becoming another version of Rick essentially. Seeing a version of Morty that was truly able to become his own person and not care about Rick might finally make Evil Morty realize he's become what he hates.

@@Birthday888 Yeah. And it, in a sense, IS a great plot hook for those who catches it. Because it stops being that generic plot hook of having a big baddie that our protagonists are going to shoot for, but instead a question planted in our heads as to Evil Morty's character, how he reacts, and perhaps learning something from Independent Morty, and not just seeing him as a big baddie for Rick and Morty to end up defeating. If all goes well and characters grow from their shells, we might witness the whole family finally gaining any semblance of normalcy among their many abnormal antics after all.

Nah. Rick isn't going to react positively to Morty becoming more independant from him. Rick does not react nicely to loss, after all. I imagine Rick's arc for the next few seasons is going to be watching people move on in their lives so they no longer revolve around him, and he's going to have to learn how to deal with thay positively. I could totally see him backsliding and jumping to another dimension where his family hasn't had the character development they've gotten over the past few seasons so he doesn't have to experience them leaving him, but I imagine he'll realize it doesn't do anything for him.

I think Rick putting that old picture of Morty up was him symbolically letting him go, recognising that Morty is no longer dependant on him. The two are dependant on each other and though Rick may have had less character development in this episode than Morty, I think it's part of a greater narrative of Rick learning to let go and not make everything revolve around him. He literally made the whole multiverse revolve around him when he made the Central Finite Curve and in the Pluto episode he was so desperate for company he sought out Jerry. That and this might be one of the very few, if not only, times Rick has respected Morty's opinion. He definitely wanted to go into the hole, if not to see Dianne again then at least out of curiosity, but Morty told him not to and he respected his opinion enough to consider it, but not go in.

For a future overarching story, I’d love if they introduced Doofus Jerry from the comics in some way. I’ve heard people say that the comics ARE canon to the show, and if that’s the case I guess they wouldn’t be able to do that, but it’s definitely on my Rick & Morty wishlist

Yet another poor thing who saw some dumb edits of Doofus Jerry on Shorts and *for real* hopes to see what is essentially a one-shot villain to be the new overarching antagonist, man Rick and Morty fans really can't have good stuff can they

@@postironichno_innit I read the comics bro I’ve never seen any edits 💀 yeah he’s only in like 3 issues but while he was there he was giving Rick a hard time, I’m just saying if he was fleshed out more he could actually be an interesting character for the show and shake up the dynamics again later down the line. I’m not holding my breath about it though

They told you the twist right at the beginning when they were talking about how they're still in the hole. "Part of the hole is thinking you left the hole, and then they really dig into you **because you can't really be scared of anything if you know you're still in the hole**". Remember what the original promise of the hole was? It's not just that it will scare you, it's that you will be fearless afterwards. Why are you fearless? Because you think you're still in the hole. If your hole reality is just a scifi thingy that's trying to scare you, then that's not scary, nothing is scary. The twist isn't going to be that they were in the hole the whole time, it's not going to be that it was a double-bluff and they came out of the hole right away, the twist will be that they'll never know for sure. Also, we never saw Rick jump into the hole. Why would he have done that? He's put himself in danger to rescue Morty before, but Morty wasn't in any actual danger, why wouldn't he just sit tight a couple minutes until Morty comes out of the hole? So we know Morty went into the hole, we have no way of knowing whether he came out of the hole, which means Rick probably didn't come out of the hole and the one we have now is a hold delusion. But the real Rick is still back at Denny's, so they have to reunite somehow by the end of the episode... or maybe they don't? I don't have a firm guess on where they're taking this aspect of the story. I'm currently at paused at 14:10 btw, so unless you think I prewatched, maybe I'm just better at predicting Rick and Morty than you are.

SPOILERS I really like that Rick doesn’t jump into the Hole at the end. He considers it, a chance to see his wife again, but then ultimately decides not to because he knows it wouldn’t be real. Pre Rick Prime’s Death maybe he would have done it maybe even post Prime’s death, but what he realizes what he has now is real and that’s good and he wants something meaningful to make him happy instead of an illusion to give him an empty happiness.

I like to think that it's the combination of both him finally internalising the YEARS worth of torment and revenge filled life and resolving that by killing Prime Rick, AND his love and trust for his current Morty that he just takes a Morty by his word that it just isn't worth it. He still considers it. But he visibly weighs it in his head, and relented to just trust Morty instesd.
@Yipper64

which is interesting because one of the points of the series is that he can hop dimensions, basically nothing is real at that point. Everything is replaceable. Except of course Dianne, but the point is what he has *now* isnt technically real. He's died and been cloned so many times how does he know he is even real? But clearly at some point even with all this stuff there is something real.

What I'm thinking actually is that to rick everything Morty went through as a fraction of a moment, so other people who went there only spend a moment before going out fearless, the real thing to think about actually is, did Morty was the only one who went through all that because his fears are complexes, and he overthinks everything because he is actually extremely smart, that is why he is scared, because he fears everything. Rick sees the infinite power a weapon or machine can have and think in how to build and to wield it but never fears it because he knows he will always have another chance in another body or universe because to his almost nothing is truly important while Morty sees the weapon or machine for his potential destructive capabilities and damage, every life to Morty is sacred, every thought of every one around him is important. That is why he thinks he needs rick. Because he feels powerless and Rick is the most powerful being in the universe. But I think that now Morty realizes that he don't need Rick, Rick needs Morty

I think the hole doesnt always finish the job. The other pictures looked pretty traumatized really. So maybe it just got full and spit em' out. And also the hole specifically went for Rick and Morty because they said they had nothing left to fear, so the hole probably finds deeper fears tastier and those other people probably had relatively normal fears that the hole doesnt find as tasty.

42:46 maybe that was also the message for us, that things are as simple as they seem, especially when bringing up Rick Prime. I know personally I'm still questioning if he's still alive or will come back, because... it seemed too easy, too simple, too quick, so maybe this was as much for Morty as it was for us, like us the audience were Morty. We're afraid there's more to be had, that we're missing something, but... it is, simple as that, no more Rick Prime. Why fear the inevitable, otherwise you just waste away.

I feel alot of people are ignoring the fact that he pulled the final picture of morty out of his wallet. He actually CARES alot about morty, so much so he keeps a photo of him in his wallet. Rick at this point is not the carless one in the dynamic. Its Morty. I feel thats where the direction of the series is going to go from here. Where we now have to deal with a rick that cares in his own way, and a morty that views everything as disposable
@Birthday888
@Birthday888 Жыл бұрын
It's both? Like, relationships are complicated things, very rarely is one side purely responsible for the flaws in the relationship. Rick can't express how much he cares about Morty for fear of getting hurt, while Morty is too scared of being abandoned to stand up to Rick in any meaningful way. This is what Season 5's finale illustrated, where their relationship was a toxic loop of Rick pushing Morty away, Morty desperately trying to get back into Rick's good graces, and Rick letting him back in because he still craves relationships despite saying everything to the contrary. Season 7 finale illustrates that both Rick and Morty have moved past this toxic state of their relationship completely, with Rick being more open about expressing care for Morty, and Morty becoming more independent from Rick. The problem is now Morty has to consider whether he actually wants to stay with Rick or not, and that'll obviously clash with Rick's newfound decision to be more open about expressing concern and care for Morty. TLDR; Morty doesn't view people as "disposable" just because he no longer cares about depending on Rick or not. Honestly, this is a pretty positive step for Morty, but it's also one that has the potential to completely upheave his current dynamic with Rick, which Rick will probably not like.

It's been shown a few times over the series, one that sticks out to me is the purge episode. Rick enjoys a good fight, but seeing Morty just sensessly slaughter everyone, including defenceless people that were hiding and even shooting corpses - it crossed a line. Morty became too much like himself and he didn't like it, because he wants better for Morty.

I think this is great development for next season. Remember "A cocky Morty can lead to some big problems." We just got a morty who's slowly gotten smarter over the last few seasons and now is probably more comfortable with fear than he's ever been. I'm imagining we're going to get an arc where we get Rick vs Morty in the future. Then Rick trying to prove to himself that he's different and trying not to become like Rick Prime.
