Yah shame they ruined this epic show by season 5. Where did it go so wrong? Was it the fact they changed the personality so fast. Or the constant hoping dimensions and constant questions of which dimension of rick are we watching? Or was it the tease of story development only to constantly hope back to a season where it's just random adventures with no purpose or good jokes to laugh at? I'd say a little of everything.

But the dimension hopping is the best bit even tho it can get confusing or make no sense, the way the show explores the multiverse with all these infinite versions of Rick is a massive part of what makes Rick and Morty unique imo

I think a big turning point in Morty's character development was when they went to the purge planet and he finally gets pissed off and starts whacking everybody. Yeah but most importantly the difference it’s on how people die, in the first two season seams so agonizing, painful and characters around getting emotional. in new season characters die quickly while screaming. it just doesn’t feel the same.

actually, jerry is way different. his weakness was a last minute change, he started out very stern and man of the house-y. in the pilot you can still see remnants of that.

The ironic thing is robots & zombies are both still in a sense alive, even if not typically biologically & mechanically so, but it's supposedly easier to convince people to violate their moral hang-ups on killing in general & rationalize them as expendable targeted threats that aren't really alive. it’s really wild the character development morty has gone through. since season 1 he went from a stuttery innocent child who didn’t wanna hurt anyone physically or emotionally. and now we have a young man who kills without remorse and says whatever he wants to whoever he wants with zero stutter and means every word.
