I am very concerned that Rick Caruso is running for mayor of Los Angeles so I would like to share my experiences with the voting electorate. Mr Caruso and his company have committed multiple acts of malfeasance which I have experienced personally as a homeowner at Caruso owned property Americana at Brand in Glendale. The condo he and his company sold me as well as to the other 99 owners were with the misrepresentation of their actual size. That malfeasance was the subject of a lawsuit that I won and was published in the Glendale Press. Mr. Caruso was also sued by the Board of Directors of our Homeowners Association for construction defects in our building. In retaliation Caruso banned all 100 owners from use of amenities in another building he owns on the property. I believe Caruso does not contribute his fair share into the homeowners monthly dues of our building even though he controls the entire first floor of the building with his numerous retail tenants and Restaurants When I have spoken out or had a dissenting opinion about Caruso or his company he and his people have responded by terminating my rights and privileges of use of the property. Other lawsuits that were brought against Mr Caruso for malfeasance that were also published in the Glendale Press include those by retail tenants Rid Aid and Cafe Primo. Based on my experience and opinion Rick Caruso should not be elected the next mayor of Los Angeles.

High rent and lack of housing is the contributing factor in homelessness. Will he be able to break through NIMBY opposition to new housing? Zoning laws? His views on transit and transit oriented development? All these things are obstacles to actually getting homeless off the streets. Putting them in jail will just cost money and invite civil rights lawsuits that cost even MORE money. Also, at least a portion (not all) of the homeless also need considerable medical and mental help (including drug treatments) and they need to be compelled into treatment, especially the ones that have outbursts and exhibit anti-social behavior. He does not have that power as LA Mayor so I can't see improvements in that regard. Hopefully, Newsom's Mental Health Court plan to compel treatment in civil court will be passed so that we can really get the homeless the help that they need, whether they agree to it or not.

I have to say that I am opposed to the thought of hiring more Police officers. It already looks like a military state in so many parts of LA so why would we want more of that? Police brutality is on the news every day. Why would we want to increase the chances of that happening? I’m sure you’ve done a lot of good things but from your videos it looks like it’s more of a “cult of personality” style of leadership. To declare a State of Emergency on Day one sounds like a good premise to enact Marshall Law and that’s not exciting. What is interesting to me is your ability to develop. The Grove, Playa Del Rey, Even the Palisades all nice spots in a very commercial way. But those developments are not true communities. I’m a fan of true neighborhoods. Like the ones your grandparents lived in. Like the ones where twice a day you can hear the song of the Tamale cart pusher. Tamales never tasted better. Like the ones where the fruit truck comes around with the freshest fruits that you don’t have to buy and wait for 2 days before it’s ripe enough to eat. The ones where people know each other. We need to focus on homelessness but it seems your plan is to hire a bunch of henchmen to kick people all around town. We have homeless people here because we have no winter. Plain and simple. If I was disenfranchised from this car dystopia of a culture we have built in America you bet your barn I’d look for a place with mild weather to live my more simplistic way of life. So our weather is our blessing and our curse. You need to make room for everyone. To more and more people Cars feel like the true crack, cocaine, heroine, and meth of our civilization. Heck between, accidents, air pollution and oil wars you can be sure they kill way more people then all the drugs combined. But most of us are “crack babies”. We were born into this addiction and we known no other ways except to set up camp somewhere where the weather is nice. Anyway Like how you said Faith, Family and Community. But I’ll tell you this when you are in the service of your fellow man you are only in the service of your faith. I hope you can understand my concerns.
