If you freeze it at 1:33, it looks like David is using a long hammer to hit a nail around 3' in front of the ball location; the ball just gets in the way. A very accurate and powerful concept. Then just follow through after impact without the need for unnecessary arm/hand rotation. timing to square the face, etc... All based on his grip.

indeed, but did you see how nowadays his right arm drops straight down on the downswing, getting it stuck and making it hard to square up the clubface, but in 99' his right arm went right back around with his hips (forward) allowing him to open up his body and just freewheel through the ball, also another thing is in 99' he took the club outside the line on the backswing a little bit which kept the club in front of him, great video though thanks

At 1:45 his head is already 45 degrees to target and the club still has 45 degrees to the ball. Interesting.
