For me, Matt Cameron was one of the iconic drummers of the '90s that shaped and informed my own playing. His drums always sound MASSIVE -- something about his feel and his choice of fills is just absolute perfection. Jimmy Chamberlain is the other main influence of mine from '90s alternative rock. I'm forever grateful I grew up listening to such great drummers.

I know what you're saying 100% man but the fact that Cameron had so little interview attention on his own only magnified his mystique for me and not only was he cool me, it almost like deified them.. Both him and Shepheard. I'm a guitar player but man, Soundgardens Rhythm section intimated the shit out of me. Like if I ever saw them in real life I'd probably piss myself and only listen to Crash Test Dummies for the rest of my life because they're too cool for me.

As a guy who moved to Seattle in the early 00s and played in the rock scene here for many years, it never ceases to amaze me how many stories you hear about the Seattle bands from the 90s (Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice etc.) being all about the song. Obviously there was ego involved, there is with every band, but those bands just managed to work through that and really step back and care so much more about the song as a sum of all its parts. I wasn't even a fan of the grunge movement when I moved here, and I still rarely listen to those bands, but every time I've met someone from those bands, and every time I hear stories about them, or see them in interviews its the same down to earth, real musician kind of experience.

I got Superunknown when I was 14 but you know, Weezer's blue album came out super soon after, and Punk in Drublic and I just got deep into punk rock. In my early twenties I had a stupid long train commute every day and in desperation of running out of albums to listen to I dusted off my old Superunknown CD. The first time Limo Wreck played to my more mature tastes in music and life it fucking destroyed me. It's still one of my favorite songs ever recorded.

I love him so much. I'm still hurting so much from the loss that I haven't been able to listen to SG because it makes me so emotional, I feel like I am drowning*. But, I am so blessed that this is the band that seared themselves to my soul. Every member, from beginning to end, have been good dudes, and also brilliant and unique musicians. And unfortunately, painfully underrated. Gonna be cryptic and say that it's always been clear the respect they have for each other and always will, and anyone who might think otherwise is very confused. 🤐 *Literally sobbed while listening to PJ's "Black" on the radio yesterday. Ever since Eddie performed it right after we lost Chris, I immediately associate it with losing Chris, with Eddie's obvious agony, and it's not like the damn song was a cheer-fest before. My face is like a leaky faucet in my old age.

Ugly Truth is such an amazing song. My favorite Soundgarden era for sure. I get why he's not as enamored with BMF's production. It is really dry, but that's kind of what made it so cool at the time. Everything coming out then was drenched in reverb and room sound. It was such a different sounding record. Superunknown definitely seemed like a mix of the ambience of louder than love with some of the song writing vibe of BMF. Personally I don't think it quite hit the emotional level of Louder Than Love but that's just me. It was the first thing I bought from them way back in 89 and it still remains my favorite.

It was definitely conscious. I think what he was implying is that he was outvoted. I think BMF is still much drier than Justice.
