Find many trees cut in similar fashion here in our provincial parks system in Nova Scotia...so I asked a ranger...his reply was that it is done as a precaution, a thinning of the forest, and cut in lengths for quicker decay and allows for a variety of habitats...sounds good anyway...lol...thanks for the adventure...

Its an Aweful waste of a good resource. There is no such thing as "Over Crowded". They have finally figured that out. When I went to school they were always trying to "Cull the Elephants", the wolves, The Reindeer, etc. Now they know that they are an important part of the ecosystem and help control all kinds of cycles. Thanks for the comment!

Well here I am at the Stony Fork Campground in Jefferson National Forest near Walker Mountain Overlook. Decided I would come and check out your beautiful state of North Carolina. Leaving in the morning because I'm just passing through.

a lot of those trees in the beginning of your video that were cut into logs and then the one long one almost like a telephone pole might have been Canadian hemlocks that had succumbed to The Woolly adelgid infestation. It has wiped out most of the old ancient Canadian hemlocks in the Southeastern US. The giant virgin ones are gone at Joyce Kilmer Forest also. So sad. Thanks for the video. I love all of those areas myself I may see you around sometime in that area. I go quite often. Just me and my little dog.

Thanks again, No Those trees weren't cut diseased, they were in their prime. But I did see some with the Adelgid on other trees. So the infestation continues to spread.

Nice to know about Donley Cabin. Hadn't heard of that. How long of a hike was it from the parking area? Thanks for always putting new places out there. I've followed some of your traveling spots because of what you show and I really enjoy it. thanks!

I was wondering what was going to jump up and run out of the cabin myself. It was all open and dark, not the best way to find a cabin in the woods!

Really enjoyed seeing the complete (with “bathroom”) tour of the Donnelly cabin. Amazing those beavers can create all that change to the environment and they don’t need an engineering degree or permits. We humans think we are superior???? LOL

And though it looks like a lot of destruction, they are really doing a lot to stop flooding, filter the water, and make the land much more fertile! Good little animals ! Thanks for the comment. Always good to "see" you !

Official website says the cabin pre dates the civil war, so maybe mid 1800s. $35.00/night. Had a beaver dam on my property. Killed a bunch of trees and flooded a farm field. Have not seen them in the last few years, maybe they're harassing someone else! Nice video......................
@GoingNoWhereFast

The flooded field is probably the best place to farm once the water dries up, Yes, it is supposed to be a true representation of the way people lived in the mountains before the Civil War.

@@GoingNoWhereFast oh yes they are. They are to be physically restrained at all times on a trail in a national forest just the same as in a campground. You might want to know the laws of what national forest and campground you are in.
