Fun fact. Although this movie was released in 1988, it was actually filmed in 1983. The reason it took 5 years to release the film is pretty simple. The people behind the film presumably couldn't find a company willing to actually "release" it (i.e. pay to get it in theaters, advertise it, create VHS copies, and get these copies distributed.) So, it was supposed to come out around the same time as Rocky III.

@@ExplorerDS6789 "History of the World" wasn't a parody of any specific film franchise, although there is in fact a "Part II" scheduled next year. The only logic I mentioned is that a successful film making fun of the Rocky series (which when this parody came out already had four entries) would not surprise anyone if it came out with a sequel. I never implied a parody with "1" in its title is compelled by some sort of iron law of history to have a sequel.
