He was always polite to the fans. I was a fan and he actually let me ride with him on a track in tallahassee florida. He took pictures with my friend and me. Even staged a table top jump with me and ricky carmichael in it so we could both be in the picture it took 5 tries. Good memories.

I never got very good at MX as a amateur, but I did not go about it correctly, and had no parental support (which many guys did not have in those days, when a kid could afford his own bike. Now if you don't have parental support, you don't get to ride at all because a kid can't afford it on their own). But I won a few races, had more bad days than good days. But that experience, (even as a mid pack finisher), made me pretty good at what ever I did afterwords. Now, I port small 2-stroke engines for a living, and have won championships all over the world. MX makes you a winner, period! This sport is all about the individual, and that is why I love it. Team sports? All I saw was a dictator coach, and a bunch of "workers" jumping up and down. I am glad I did not waste my time with them.

I have had the opportunity to know RC personally through most of his career. I have told others that I always thought RC was motivated more by the fear of losing than by the joy of winning. This is the first time that I ever heard him voice that however.

You are becoming a great color commentator Ricky! That is like winning in something other than racing and gate drops. Your practice shows and we all look forward to your insight always. Can't wait for supercross , especially indy, got seats !!!!!!

Same, if I'm flipping through channels and a race is on I'll watch it. But all my cares left when he retired. There will never be another like him and I feel very blessed to have seen his career in it's entirety

He says he wasn't a showman but he was more of a showman than these guys today. I remember RC throwing no-footed cancans and laying it flat more times than I can remember!

Might be young but his body is in its 60-70's from injuries his life is now lived to help him with the problems he's left with remember the riders pay the most in body and mind price tags and just dropped if they can't race to expectations I give them all the respect for the mental toughness they have to be good and last nothing is handed to them if you think about it and what they risk and what is the price of your body parts and mental health would you give up your life for some swag and 100,000 + a year it takes a special type of person to say yes and smile and be the best at it with all your heart and soul into it so from me ty for giving us the opportunity to see you race it's an honor

When you are playing at a high level wether it's motocross or a team sport it's not fun..it's about training hard and winning ..go to the next level...if you want fun ride recreational ..sports at high level are not fun..compassion and fun are too different animals...

@Trent williams agree but my parents forked out a f ton of money in my short racing career. And that was just in local races. I looked at new bike prices now and it cost as much as car almost its insane

Don't be a dick, there is no way that you could have endured the training regime that he did for most of his career. Not many people could do his routine, so when he stopped racing it was inevitable that he would gain weight. And he will still kick your ass on a dirt bike I promise.
@Lunatikgixxer

You clearly didn't watch his career then. He was a tub tub on a Honda and Kawi before that. The only reason he was skinny towards the end of his career is because he trained so hard.
