People are conditioned in these contexts, which is why you often see people laugh when guests are talking about a serious story (see Harrison Ford for ex on late night shows or the infamous Joaquin Phoenix on Letterman).

Ricky Gervais knows exactly how to do a controversial joke but still be absolutely on point, so you can't fault him for it. He is a master at jokes, compared to many other 'controversial' comedians who are just popular for being narcissistic assholes. Ricky Gervais thinks about the target of his joke and knows exactly how to crisscross and layer his jokes doubly so that the brilliance overpowers any controversy.

Are you suggesting Ricky believes the moronically ridiculous conspiracy theory about Queen Elizabeth, Tom Hanks, and others belonging to a secret pedophilia ring who also drink the blood of babies?!? Is that what you're commending him about?? If he heard what you're suggesting he'd laugh, you know his laugh, right in your face. Probably call you a daft bloody git as well. Btw, that conspiracy theory has been proven false, along with the other fairy tales Q suckers his readers with. Weren't you there to watch JFK Jr come back from the dead? Yeah, that didn't come true either. I'd like to know what did come true. Name ONE thing Q predicted that actually happened, with proof. Really happened. Just one...
@actividadesdiversasnoespec3228
@actividadesdiversasnoespec3228 2 жыл бұрын
@@GoodJuju.8D I don't think OP suggested that Ricky believes in whatever nonsense QAnon types have to say. We have to agree that Hollywood is a shady place at best, not as QAnon makes it up to be, but it is a place where people like Cosby, Weinstein, Polansky and many other big shots can blackmail young actors and take advantage of them. The brilliance of Ricky's performance at the Golden Globes is - in my opinion - that he points out the hypocrisy of the famous Hollywood actors that preach about equality and social justice while at the same time keep quiet about sexual abuse they've witnessed, know about or suspect, or openly support people like Roman Polansky. Again, there is no elite cult of pedophiles who drink the blood of children, but there actually is a power structure that allows mostly older men and women to have absolute power over the career of a young actor or actress. And the extent to which that power is and has been abused in the past will never be truly known.

@@NotDecided420 Yeah, prolly so. Just as there are few if any physical reminders of the war left on the mainland, I was more thinking of how little it occupies the cultural and public sphere. Nobody in the US would use the term 'Jap' or 'Kraut" any more, yet Al Murray even today gets a laugh out of the audience when he talks about 'calling "Fritz in Frankfurt on extension 109". PS. It got me to thinking. Everybody knows, of course, of the USS Arizona memorial, but that's in Hawaii. I worked on the very first pilot and then the first series of the office. I thought the same until I saw the actual show. Loved it and anything since that he’s done. Working in the film industry and his extras series is so close as to how extras really are. Unless you work in the industry you most likely wouldn’t understand it.

I LOVE jokes about things that are horrible (nazis, illness, death...) ... Some people think that laughing of horrible things is terrible, but what they dont know is that this kind of laugh is terapeutic, cause some things are too hard to understand so, if you cant understand them and they hurt you a lot, at least you can laugh at them (just for the time of a joke) and it feels great. I thank this kind of humour.

@KZbinrs fan And dj too Churchill the myth is great. But really so much of what we 'know' today is just that. Myth. Did you know his famous 'We shall fight them on the beaches ' speech was never heard directly from him by the British public ? He made it in the Houses of Parliament and it was transcribed and then read by a BBC news announcer. His speech on Singapore was greeted with general dismay. A lot of his speech was slurred and people, rightly or wrongly thought he was drunk. He had government advisors who got him to tailor his speeches to appeal to the Americans. Amongst his crimes was the notorious sending of the Black and Tans into Ireland. He has been largely recreated as a National hero. He certainly wasn't a coward and saw action but he was hated as much or more so than loved in his own time.

@KZbinrs fan And dj too Gandhi falsely raised the hopes of the Dalits that their grievances would be addressed and rectified in order to get their support and that of their leader Dr Ambedkar (aka The Greatest Indian) and then betrayed them. That is one of the reasons they are still oppressed today. He didn't invent their oppression but he helped to perpetuate it.
