Hwy 40 Blues was the first album I ever had. I loved Ricky Skaggs so much my older brother bought me his album back in 1983 as a surprise gift with money he earned picking watermelons for a local farmer. I have never forgotten that. My brother passed away back in 2003.

Country WAS headed in the right direction back then. Musicians like Ricky, Patty Loveless, Dwight Yoakam, Vince Gill, Alison Krauss are big time talents who were getting radio airplay back in the day. About 10-20 years ago, give or take a few... the corporations gave up on Alan, Patty, Ricky, Dwight, etc.. (None of them needed radio in the long run). Something went horribly wrong. Thank the Lord they didn't sell their souls to make anything like what we're hearing now!! Country is gone and it started way back, with the likes of (the talented), Chet Atkins!!

Got see him in 1990 lots great memories lane: their times I try not my Hearring loss but enjoy listening to him with my new Hearring aids clear sound . Thanks Ricky Skaggs and The band . Enjoy all his music. My Father Love his Music. Once he heard song on the radio stations. Pure country music sound. My dad was once truck driver and few my uncles. Enjoy Country Music Songs on country music stations. And Few Truck Driver Songs on late night hours .

These were the days & hopefully they will come again, but I doubt it. This is a Country Song & it tells a story. It's not Hip Hop, RAP, Horseshit, Heavy Metal or anything else, but Country. & it will be played for the next few hundred years. The stuff played on Radio today, won't be played again next month & maybe never again, EVER. That speaks volumes about it's real worth... Enjoy a real song, folks, for as long as you can...

And THAT is why I will always say that the best three decades, for country music, were the 70's, 80's & 90's. The " Forever Country" mashup song showcased three masterpieces of the first two of those.

In my thinking, it was from the mid/late 1950's through the mid/late 1980's.... went down hill from there, with the exceptions of George Strait, Alan Jackson, and a very few others.

I took my Mom to see Ricky right after this album came out. I noticed Ray Flacke, a great lead man, was not in this video (no flashy lead guitar work necessary). He put on one hell of a show. Was playing a local bar back then not far from where we lived. Awesome band. All studio musicians traveling with him at the time.
