This song was played at my husband's funeral a little over nine years ago. I had the privilege of meeting Vince Gill and telling him how much this song meant to me. You see, my husband was a Vietnam veteran and he struggled with the loss of both legs(below knees) for 35 years. Through all of it he never lost his sense of humor, his spirit to live and "fight" for what was right, sometimes physically if he had to. That line in the song "you weren't afraid to face the devil, you were no stranger to the rain" fit him perfectly. It was if Vince had written it just for him. Vince Gill is a humble man and every inch a gentleman. I treasure the 20 minutes I was able to spend with him. I'll never forget how caring and kind he was. To thank him I gave him a copy of the book my husband wrote about his time over there. Thanks Vince and God Bless.

My Daddy put his heart in Jesus' hand 2 weeks before he went to be with him. It is so satisfying to know my Daddy will be there to greet me up on that mountain when my time also comes. My daddy had a great voice too and he played a mean fiddle. I am sure the angel band has put his talents to good use. My Daddy was in the service too, in the Army. So glad Vince had to gentlemanly and respectfully come onstage and keep Ricky from ruining the rest of go rest high on that mountain. Can't believe some joke at the.mall or wherever actually thought a no talent like Ricky had recorded to rest high on that mountain. Vince and Ricky have NEVER sounded alike and this is the first and last time I will EVER hear Ricky's garbage voice. If she actually thought Ricky sounded enough like talented vince then she is deaf. Sorry for her story she told Ricky because I wouldn't wish bad things to happen to anyone but she is dumb for thinking that Ricky did this. Vince wrote and recorded it by himself
