EA Skate was out at this time and the regular Tony Hawk games had been bashed online by Skate fans. Also these were seen as kiddie as people didn't expect the decks to be sturdy enough for adults. And at the time the game market was full of weird controllers: Guitar Hero, Rock Band, DJ Hero, uDraw...people were tired of them.

When you decided to slap trucks on it I did not expect the board to last more than 30 seconds. So gotta give some respect to Tony and his team for designing something sturdy enough to actually function as a skateboard for a session.

Skateboarding games are pure nostalgia, We'd use Boba Fett and the moon gravity to fly infinitely, to later going slow mo for late flips in project 8, then learning the flick system felt like learning how to skate, my first tre flip was mind-blowing. All with the homies 🫡

I think Tony hawk's ride was simply made in a time that the technology was simply not there yet to achieve the ultimate goal. I think in the next decade that type of game could actually be done correctly but I would imagine it would be very expensive for the skateboard deck controller

I remember convincing my roommate to go in on this game with me. We put our money together and bought it, so excited to try it out. We tried our best to get some fun out of it, but he was over it very quickly. I lasted a little bit longer before finally conceding that the game was basically unplayable. At that time, if you returned a game to GameStop within a week, you could get a full refund, even if it was used. So that's what I did, then I took my portion of the money and bought a copy of Skate 2.

It's funny to hear a modern skateboarder ask why they even put grabs in the game. It's a very fair question, as most of us from 90s and beyond are street skaters but tony on the other hand, being a vert skater, probably has always viewed grabs as an integral part of a skateboarding game. I think most modern skaters don't really do a lot of grabs.

Yeah, i more meant from a gameplay point of view, ramps and airs arnt really a huge part of the game, maybe people would complain if they were left out but not many challenges utilise them. There is a vert mode but we dont need to talk about that

Yeah, I kind of like the way the controller skateboard looks when it slips through the air honestly😅😅 I know it’s a little more weedy and thicker. It just looks sort of like every trick is more lofty if that makes sense I think it looks cool.

The black background probably didn't do the skateboard any favors when calibrating it since it uses a camera. Still this game was one of those, good idea, not the best execution shows. Using it as a board was wicked tho

Hes been divorced 3 times. Its no secret. And he's been very vocal as to why. And speaks about it often. The first marriage they were super young. Knew each other from high school. And he cared more about skating than the relationship. He was always gone doing demos. As, it was hard to make money at that time. Which made the stress worse. And that carried into his second and third wife. I know he's still close to all his exs. It wasn't like he was a total piece of crap and thats why things didn't work out. Point is. Yes, hes been married many times. But it seems he finally found the one with Catherine. What bit I do know about her she seems awesome.
