Away on a 3 night contract shoot. Several properties to visit this trip. Foxes, hares and rabbits are the main target species.
Running the Infiray Rico RS75 1280 core on my Sako 223.
Other gear being used includes the Pulsar Thermion2 XP50 LRF on my 17hmr and the Pard SA62-45 on my .22 cal M3 FX Impact air rifle.

I'm what some people might consider old, and the last time I used a rifle was around 2006 I think. I enjoy watching your channel and Edge Of The Outback for a few reasons. One, you don't glamourise, or sensationalise your profession. Two, you are both very accurate riflemen/shooters. Three, you respect and appreciate the environment you work in. Four, you are both passionate about reducing the feral animal population in Australia, which is admirable. I've been the same from a young age. And finally, you're entertaining and educational. I'll be living out bush again in the near future and will be looking into getting a license so that I can maybe work with Nat Parks or private landholders up in Far North Queensland. You and Nathan kind of inspired me but my issue will be a budget. I know I don't need a high-end setup to get started but wow, you two blokes have some nice kit. Anyway. I meant to just comment about the 223 at the 2:00 mark. That is such a beautiful piece of work. I'm a bit of a sucker for a rifle that looks like what I grew up with in the 70s and 80s, only that is so much more refined than what I had.

That RS75 is everything I would want in NV. What a piece of equipment that is. Nice work on the varmints, the rabbit supply looks to be endless. I have never really loved my 17 HMR. Wind just affects the tiny bullets so badly and we always have wind. Its frustrating because I want it to work every day like it does on a calm day.

I’m from south coast nsw and just got back from a week long hunting trip from hunter valley to Pilliga and I can’t believe how many ferals are up there , rabbits fox pig and deer in abundance and Pilliga loaded with goat , so different to where I live where , you can spend 100s of hrs hunting without seeing anything to shoot , you hunters up that way have it so good , I got more kills in one day up there then last 2 years at home

One more comment. A memory from around 1987/8 I was down at Griffith, visiting my sister when she was living with a bloke whose family had a property out East of Yenda, out near Binya on the edge of the dry country, or for the unknowing, where the irrigation area ends. We were sitting out the back of the house and he pointed up the rise about 500 metres down the paddock to an old mallee tree, and then said, "Hang on...", went inside, and brought out a rifle scope. It was about 2 in the afternoon, and around that tree, you could see a heap of warren entrances, and maybe fifty or more hares/rabbits/bunnies. He (I found out later) was a mad rum drinker, and when he got on the rum, he'd shoot the rabbits on the hill. But he never shot enough that they abandoned the warrens. After all, it was right on the edge of the irrigation zone, so they had access to greens on their doorstep. He'd just wander up and collect the dead and process them after he'd had his fun.

I’m nowhere in your league mate, I’ve just got a NightTech thermal spotter, and a PARD 008 on a very nice Browning A bolt, and shoot feral’s on my little property, in southeast Aussie, and on the next door’s property, yes, their happy for me to do so. I have just purchased a PARD 007, so I can fit it on my 17HMR, and 22 air rifle. Really like the content of the video, so I have subscribed 👍🏻

8:10 I'm a bit of a knife nerd, and by extension, have also collected a few torches. One of my favourites, partly due to it's price, but mostly because of its spot-throw, is the Speras T1. Maximum 1200 lumen with a claimed throw of 1300m. I've tested it against low-reflection things like high-voltage power line towers and can light up a tower 900m away. I shoneit down a road out front of the property and it was lighting up 'end of road' signs a kilometre away. It has three settings, 1200/400/100/2, with respective runtimes of 4/5/20 and 285 hours, as well as a strobe function. At 400 lumen it will throw about 750m. I know that a certain knife shop in Brisbane sells them, but I'm not here to inadvertently spam. Just thought you might like to check it out. I believe they can be mounted on a rifle..? EDIT: I think you can buy colour filters for them too.

@@RJMHuntingAustralia 376 gms when loaded with the batteries. Narrow battery body but a big head. It's roughly 30cm long. It's okay for me because I'm hand-holding. I had a nice small Thrunite that had a throw almost as long. It was designed to piggyback scopes. Very light but very powerful. But, someone decided they needed it more than me and it disappeared.

Commenting as I watch. Could that issue with the Thermion2 be a thermal sensor fault? I'm thinking with my electronics hat on. Could it be that the centre part of the sensor isn't 'seeing' differences finely enough but the edges still are? Some sort of electronic 'wear and tear' thing?

Ill bet both your dots and the background were of a very similar material (reflective nature and temperature) this would show the camera the same temperature reading to convert to a visible image. Contrasting surface textures for your next targets should be an easy fix. I cant work out why it would become visible when angling the camera away ??? (Lens angle/refraction ???) It would be great to hear an explanation in the next vid. 👍

When you said "$23k" for the sight I nearly crapped myself, but then I thought about. I remember spending $8k on a scope back in the early 90s, so it'd be not that much different when you look at inflation etcetera.

@@RJMHuntingAustralia a big old Leupold bastard. From memory it was 5-25x or something like that. It was on a MacMillan Tac .50 which I only had for about 18 months. Had to buy the gun from the US (no internet shopping back then - it was all catalogues) and the scope came from Europe for some reason I can't remember, even though they're made in the US. Everything seemed to cost twice as much as the 'book' price. Imports, freight and exchange rates I'm guessing. At the time I thought it was as cool as hell, but looking back I think I might been a bit of a dick. I was young and dumb and had the money to burn, or so I thought.

The shadow you saw was the cold dirt that splashed up from the bullet passing through the animal and hitting the ground. The wind was blowing right to left which made it look strange
