The neck opening on these euro jackets is cut way to far back on the top of the jacket, so it kind of cuts into front of neck… it’s such an odd design problem I’ve noticed. They need to make the neck openings larger and more forwards since we are sitting and leaning forwards using these. They always hit my Adam’s Apple. You can see when you wearing it it’s touching your Adam’s Apple and the back of your neck has a 3-4” opening.

Phew ............ that's a relief it got a favourable review! I spent a good couple of hours trying this jacket on, in store, in combination with various mid-layers before negotiating a good deal on two of these (one for me and one for my wife) at my local Rev'it! Dealer.

Cool review Ian, really class A. Allways interesting to see whats out there. Just for the curiosa, my first MC gear as an adult was a full function Rev'it gear set, also the last "full function set" before i went layering as i did with all other outdoor clothing. Great gear though and still have it hanging around 20 years later. Happy Trails!

Epic post here, sorry... here's the TLDR: Just the pockets you need Jacket fit is great Neck is scratchy, like Ian pointed out. Pants knee armor is poorly positioned with limited ability to fix that. Nice to have short pant options. Most people do not have LONG inseams. I now know where the GORE in GoreTex comes from (after paying for the gear) -- that said, this gear is priced comparable to the less expensive Klim goretex gear, but about half what their top end stuff is. I just picked up the jacket and pants because I was looking for a goretex/dry suit suitable for 2 week trips. On a long ride, you can't pick your weather. And depending on where and when you go, there's a good change you're going to hit every type of weather imaginable. Heat, rain, cold, etc. In the past, I've gone with mesh, liners and a rain suit, which sucks. If you don't start the day in the rain suit, you're pulling over, possibly getting drenched while you scramble to put the gear on. And you probably won't fit it right, so your socks will get soaked. Plus, it takes room to pack extra gear. I wanted the unicorn. One set of gear for any weather. It does not exist. I'm fine with putting in a warm layer, that's not that much of a hassle, but a waterproof, adequately vented set of gear was what I was going for. The problem? I'm 5'10" with a 30" inseam. Most mfgs don't provide short pants. I have a gut, too, so I have to go a bit larger on the jacket or it won't zip up. And then the sleeves are too long. RevIt is a EuroMFG and despite the claims they run large, they don't. I wear a 2x usually, I had to go with the 3X jacket. It fits pretty well. The sleeves are a little long, but it's usable, especially with the foream adjusters. I like the jacket. It has hand warmer pockets which are a deal breaker for me, but it's not chock full of pockets I don't want or need like most ADV style jackets. I, too, experienced the scratchy neck. Right in front. Not sure how I want to deal with that. I'd rather not use a gaiter, but I may have to. I'm not going to wear a turtleneck. I suppose a gaitor when its raining might be ok and leave it unzipped a tad when not. The pants are offered in a short version. I ordered the one that supposedly would fit me and one size up. I had to go with one size up because, like I said, they don't run large. The legs are nearly 2" too long, but that's better than 4-5" too long like most pants. Over my boots, I think it'll work. I can't adjust the velcro at the bottom while wearing the pants because I don't bent like that.to the side. It's why I hate most dirt bike boots. Inside closure works fine for me, but outside closure sucks. I cannot twist and bend to manage things at ankle level no matter what. But, preset, I think the velcro will work and I can slip into my boots after I put the pants on, which is probably better in general anyway. I don't think these are designed to be overpants, which I think is great. Overpants are too baggy. These are, however, baggy. But fitting them over my jeans CAN be done, although it's difficult. Just wearing my underwear or leggings, though is fine. I doubt I'll commute in these. My biggest complaint about the pants is the knee armor. It's WAY too low. They do not adjust at the bottom from what I can see, you can only squeeze them up with 3 stages of velcro. The highest setting still doesn't come to my kneecap, so I had to leave the pocket open and stick the top 1/4 or so of the armor outside the pocket to get it placed right. This is not comfortable when putting the pants on, especially if you're in your underwear. It's probably ok with leggings. But the armor is not secured at the bottom or the top, so it's going to move. BAD design. You can't just chop the length off the bottom, RevIt, which is what it seems they did. Or at least, very inadequate compensation for armor placement was done on the short pants. I have another pair of pants I have to do the same thing to. I would think clothing mfgs would know better. Also, the hip armor is incredibly thin and basically worthless. It's so thin, when I felt it without looking at it, I thought it was 1/8" foam like you see in cheap pants. I doubt it's very protective. The pants are kind of bulky, so I doubt putting more substantial armor in the hip would stick out too much. I may try that. I have yet to ride in the gear, although I sat on my bike. I was comfortable on the bike. I could do all day rides in that gear. I wasn't too happy with the pants with my boots off, they felt awkward and baggy, but with my boots on, I can walk around in them ok. I felt much better about keeping them once I tried them with the boots on.

I had one and sold it. That collar was super annoying. Dug into my throat zipped or unzipped. The zipper pull is huge too and flapped my neck. The fit and finish is pretty nice. The front zipper vent is a cool feature that I think was first done on the BMW EnduroGuard jacket.

Great review. Thanks. With armour removed, do you reckon the Echelon jacket could act as a reasonably robust waterproof over-shell for Rev’it Proteus or similar armour when travelling or riding off-road?

You should review the Adventure Spec Supershirt. I think it would be a great solution to the common layering technique. I hope they also one day create the super pants.

I was looking at the Lamina - the women's version and appreciate the in depth review. I was sold on the MSR Xplorer/Voyager stuff until I realized they only have men's cut, which unfortunately just absolutely does not work (hips are a thing). These are the only ones that seem to fit the bill for what I want - lightweight, protective shell that I can customize depending on the day.

I have those pants with the added suspenders. I had to size up for the butt to fit and the suspenders hold them up haha. They've been great however, the lower inner right leg fabric is tearing due to contact with my Tenere. I'd say it is more of a sport-touring pant.

Really would love to see your opinion on the brand new Leatt Multiflow 7.5 Jacket and Pants. I think with that suit Leatt finally breaks into the real ADV rider market and it comes with full armor included (also chest armor) für around 500 bucks.

You mentioned the Carlsbad, but with the styling and material, the Echelon looks to also be an alternative to the Klim Latitude. With that said, I think the Latitude is just "A" rated, and included armor is only Level 1.

Most times I've seen an asymmetric zipper is on rain or ski jackets. It avoids the zipper under the chin and a direct wind path through the zip. Maybe your wife would have something in her collection.

Main zip mesh, Revit copying what Lindstrands had 7 years ago. Wish they skipped goretex brand and lowered the price, and maybe longer ventilation zips on the arms. Is it better vented than Carlsbad on a bike with windshield?
