I find the symbolism of most Tarot decks to be incredibly deep and fascinating. I believe you get out of it what you put into it. The deeper meanings are there if you truly want to see them. Rider Waite Smith is a classic.

This deck is one of my favorite ones. Much like what other people say below, while I have other ones, I always find myself returning to it. Through my own research into symbolism, I resonate with the tarot deck being used for storytelling. There's a lot of good analysis between the tarot deck, Jungian archetypes and Campbell's Monomyth that I find endlessly fascinating.

Excellent!! Again information new to me at least!! I've used several Tarot Decks in the past but have 'come home' to the Rider Waite Smith deck. I used Druidcraft Tarot when studying Druidry and several other Rider Waite Smith clones over the years. William Butler Yeats is probably my favorite poet and I've always suspected his connection to the Tarot. I've learned to trust intuition in choosing decks which means I've bought a lot of decks that looked good online but didn't feel right once I started using them. Rider Waite Smith just feels right and that Pictorial Key to the Tarot is a great guide to the deep symbolism of this deck.

There's a reason this deck has stood the test of time, it's both intuitive and every detail has been painstakingly thought out. The symbolism can be trusted. I'm drawn to the decks where the authors are deeply invested seekers of knowledge. My other favorite decks are Crowley's Thoth, Robert Place's Alchemical, and Jodorowsky's Marseilles. When I think of a particular trump card, Rider-Waite is the image that pops into my mind most often. It's really the only deck you need. Like you, I've bought quite a few decks that are pretty but just not as rich or don't feel right.

I have been very much interested in the Rider-Waite-Coleman_Smith deck for many years. This interest keeps growing. It appears that Waite’s included elements come from his Studies in the Golden Dawn occult order which have in turn been informed by the entry in Europe of Egyptian Alchemy via Greece, which texts arrived in Europe in the 15th Century. Interestingly, Rudolf Steiner, who was perhaps the most gifted spiritual psychic of the 20th Century, claims that much of the Ancient mystery teachings (essential ingredients, you might say) had been removed from the texts that found their way to Europe. Anyway, thank you for a useful and excellent presentation on the history of the modern Tarot deck

That was my first deck. I was given one when I was about 13 or 14. I didn't start really getting into the practice again until a few years ago, but I bought that deck again before any others. I have 6 or so at this point, and while I love them all and find them useful in different readings, I always use my Rider deck for clarification at minimum. I think it will always be my main/go to deck. The more I learn about the Golden Dawn, and watch videos like this, I gain a deeper and deeper understanding of the deck that definitely helps me when I am interpreting my spreads. Thank you for sharing. I love so much how educated you are on these topics. Being a mystic with a mind for facts, history, logic and science myself, I value your teachings very highly. You are helping me on my life long quest to reconcile all forms of religion, spiritually, and mysticism, at least within my own mind, to break down the judgements and misconceptions that keep people divided and separated from love, unity, and their higher self. Thank you again!

Excellent intro. I'd like to see you explore the differences between this deck and the Case/Jesse Burns Parke B.O.T.A. deck. Case says he made the symbolism more straightforward (e.g., having a rainbow in Temperance rather than irises, Iris being the goddess of the rainbow, here I believe referring to the alchemical "peacock's tail").

Preparation, choosing topics, the presentation, little things like daily routine and how you maintain your role as a metaphysical KZbin Goddess. The Waite/Smith deck is great but the history that Golden Dawn gives is just black propaganda against the older European esoteric decks. You should read The Underground Stream: Esoteric Tarot Revealed by Christine Payne-Towler for the real history. Angela, you should do a video on that book. Anyone who has read all her documentation would agree.

The Rider Waite deck is what I would consider a reasonable "starter deck". It is easy to use, but I have found it very difficult (nearly impossible, on my part) to bond with. As such I can use it but it does not feel consistent or in any way work to help me. I've also tried the Thoth deck, created by Crowley. I find that one too be hostile and in need of a dominant hand, but when approached authoritatively it is very helpful and will make readings much easier to get through. I'm still looking for the one that is helpful without needing to be coerced, but as of yet I've come up dry. If you know of one that would be better I would appreciate any suggestions

Popess (Visconti) Faith requires no external trappings & is sufficient unto herself Though clothed in the most simple wrappings Inside lies the wealth I think Waite distorts a lot of the symbolism in the earlier decks, that were composed by people that still knew what the cards meant, for example the frame of the hanged man which delineates the solstices is replaced by a tree & the leg points the wrong way.

Divination with Tarot I did it 1 time. Farmer, Blind-folded with 2 swords, I forget the other card. 11 years later now, magic explained by Jan Fries in a book and Aleister Crowley's description of Knowledge/Understanding/ever building understanding as a divine principle/dynamic to live have had a big impact on my life. Crowley as Horus/Hadit, alone?? Him above others?? FAILURE, total failture, it's pretty sad. BUSH FAMILY are his descendants and he was a dual agent who never took out HITLER or the NAZI ROYALS of his own nation.

My comment will be unpopular. I believe Waite distorted the purer Tarot de Marseille to accommodate his Golden Dawn epistemology. Symbols and associations were lost. And his cartoon scenes on the Minors have no esoteric significance, likely derived from Etteilla’s cartomantic inspirations he said he got from a gypsy, and the Sola Busca. I view the Rider Waite as an unfortunate prototype or rather distorted-type that has born innumerable clones. I read only the Tarot de Marseille.

The world card has the four heads of a cherubim angel I think
@diviner21
@diviner21 Жыл бұрын
The 4 cherubim of Ezekiel are an example of astro-theology in that this Biblical image actually makes a more direct , natural correspondence to the 4 Royal Stars of Persia , all of which were identified by astronomers cross culturally, and also once marked the Cardinal points of the zodiac c.2, 500 years ago. Aldebaran is the Eye of the Bull a Spring Equinox star of fertility Regulus , the Lion's Heart, is the Summer Solstice star of authority and ancestral lineage Antares is the Scorpion's Heart, the Autumn Equinox star of destruction and hidden occult power Fomalhaut, the Fish's Mouth, is Winter Solstice star of Mind overcoming Found on Hierophant where the creatures are empty formations / images he is giving to his acolytes. Perhaps the 3 crosses on his vest are symbols of the Zodiac out of which he teaches on life each sign's element and modality . The 4 living beings represent the 15 degrees of Fixed Signs or Avataric degrees Then the four are on The Wheel of Fortune which recalls Eziekiel's wheels even the experience of truth through our experience of alteration and contrast, changes in life according to ones merit or demerit. Finally the Four are on the triumphant World which suggest that each of life's quarter (childhood youth adult old age ) has a lesson to master to wear the Crown of Magi also shown on the card.

The Casino is magical. Human Rights Advocacy through visiting First Nations Casinos in Canada and the USA is a way of learning to face the Demon your own culture represents and come into alignment and harmony with our own First Nations bloodlines and remind ourselves we are related and even if not, all humanity is meant to thrive. We know this in our instincts and in our trust from the time we are babies and toddlers. STAY IN WONDERMENT as a toddler is in WONDERMENT, this advise is at least 2000 years old. CYBERconnected is what it is. Stay in wonderment and not fall into decay/kaka. Your Ba administers to your Ka at all times. Your Ennead is all around you, guarding and honoring you at all times, call them familiars, call them guardian angels, whatever works, seems natural. No one knows everything, shit I sound like a gong. Knowing and noing can be annoying. amen

KA in Egyptian Theology of ancient times = your body BA is your soul and spirit your ennead maybe, is another extension of yourself, or at least represents kindred trust and otherside realized in your present moment at all times. That can bend your mind though, knowing your guardian angels/ennead show up in those around you, that can bend your mind, so be sure before you focus on this supernatural dynamic cause the little things will suddenly seem alive. Sort of like Evil Dead 2, when the inanimate objects suddenly came alive.

The art is simple , yet profound and on each card , hidden in plain sight , are symbols holding great esoteric and magical value. Some of the symbols are found repeated in different contexts on separate cards , particularly in the 22 Major Arcana. Furthermore , the cards acts as a mnemonic aid for the occult philosopher, especially in terms of the Zodiacal and Alchemical concepts the cards portray. The artist Pamela Coleman Smith had great occult understanding as portrayed in this foundational deck.
