Another great flight...still the Lazy bee is my favourite, just as agile but a more chilled character..does slow and agile beautifully

Very James Bond,I like it. And very acrobatic. It is a positive change of pace.

That’s my bird! Nice flying. I used to fly a Ridge Recruit and Ridge Racer. Fibreglass fuselage with two wing options. It’s just come out of the shed for my son to fly. :)

Marcel Lenormand I’m not sure this one is an original Solent Sailplanes Ridge Racer. It looks similar but has a wooden fuselage

I used to have one of these. It came to an unpleasant end on the cliffs near Cromer in Norfolk. Much missed. Thanks; this brings back many happy memories.

I often wonder if the gulls approach out of curiosity/brotherhood instinct or a more practical purpose like slipstreaming. I have it had happen many times with silver gulls.

I really like the elegance of your models. Do you build them by yourself and if you do, do you share the construction plan? German: Deine Modelle fliegen sehr elegant den Hang entlang. Baust du die Flugzeuge selber und falls ja, veröffentlichst du die Baupläne?

awed _ thank you. Only a few are my own designs. Mostly I build from plans I’ve downloaded from Outerzone.

I think he lives in a mansion nearby, where the entire west wing is dedicated to models, building and storage. He even has an indoor wind tunnel to test his models in. He's stinking rich, apparently. Made a fortune in IT at a very young age. Likes to keep a low profile (that's why he always wears sunglasses).

The Ridge Racer and others all suffered from very poor glass fibre work. Looking beautiful in the box, they proved fragile due to the type and quantity of gel coat used. Hence the nickname, Solent Sailplanes - Eggshell Products. We made a plug and manufactured our own version of the fuselage in more durable materials. The plug and possibly the mould might still be in my friends garage if it is needed!

John Wighton I’m not sure this is an original Solent Sailplanes model, as it has a wooden fuselage.

Swen Sterborg I don’t really know anything about the glider as it’s one I got from a swap meet. It’s not an original Solent Sailplanes Ridge Racer, as it has a wooden fuselage.

Great glider and well flown John. Please can you tell me what the airfoil is, or describe it, and the control surfaces? That would be great. If you know of any sources of info or plans for the RR that would be great too. Thanks! David.

Hi there. This was a model which I was given second-hand, so I don’t know a great deal about it, and I’ve since sold it. I was told it was a Solent Sailplanes Ridge Racer, but I’m not so sure it was. The original Ridge Racer had a rounder shaped fiberglass fuselage, not a wooden one like my old model. Sorry I can’t be of more help.

Skylarks are the ones, though. I've had them attack my model and peck away at the rudder. Proof in the dents in the Solarfilm. Aggressive little blighters.
