Ridiculous guinea pig fight 2

Acorn and Pumpkin are fighting again with dramatic slow motion guinea pig acrobatics. Spaghett tries to intervene, but this time the fight can't be broken up by rumblestrutting or cute guinea pig noises. Acorn takes another flying leap at Pumpkin and they wrestle in midair briefly before angrily running off and teeth chattering. It was scary to watch but the pigs are OK!
This was actually filmed soon after Acorn and Pumpkin's previous fighting videos. They have been getting along in the following weeks since these fights. Guinea pigs have fights while bonding to establish dominance and set the pecking order. Acorn is growing and getting stronger so she was restarting old fights to advance in the pig rankings. It seems like they have worked out their issues now!

In June 2019 we adopted five pigs from Los Angeles Guinea Pig Rescue. They are cute herbivorous pets with funny social interactions. We film all their behaviors, from cute guinea pig noises to eating sounds, playing with their food to sleeping with their eyes open, and occasional fighting. So far they have been most popular for their loud wheeking and rumblestrutting and their ridiculous guinea pig fights!
MEET THE PIG FAMILY
Spaghett is the boar of the herd. The rest of the pigs are females, but he’s a neutered male so they won’t be breeding. Sorry, no pregnant or baby guinea pigs! Spaghett has orange-brown fur with a white crest on his head and cute red eyes. He goes on morning romps with entertaining popcorning and zoomies. He does a hilarious rumblestrutting dance for the ladies while purring. When other pigs argue he trots over to comfort them. He likes burrowing through hay and standing on his back feet like a goofy dinosaur. He’s a very good pig! Spaghett enjoys petting the most of the pigs, especially scratching behind the ears. But so far they are not so excited about us holding them.
Acorn is the youngest so we call her little Acorn. She has white, black, and gold fur with a cute mousy face. She’s inquisitive, always wants food, and talks to herself while exploring hay piles. She’s always the last one eating while the others nap. Little Acorn’s special talent is jumping on houses to go on rooftop adventures.
Butternut appears either confused or deep in thought, but we speculate she is just a very philosophical pig. She has white and gold fur. She’s the lowest ranking pig so she stares into space while waiting for other pigs to move. Her hobbies include sleeping and yawning while flopped over with her feet sprawled out. She continues wheeking, squeaking, and squealing at us after we have already given her food.
Pumpkin has black fur except for white back toes. She looks like a cow, a non-guinea pig, and a rabbit. She has noisy standoffs with little Acorn when Acorn gets too feisty. Pumpkin is receptive to Spaghett’s rumblestrutting and occasionally she chases him around instead.
Zucchin is oldest and grumpiest. She has white and gray fur with red eyes that are also surprisingly cute. At first Zucchin fought with Spaghett. There were teeth chattering, nose raising, and hair puffing battles. Now they get along, but Zucchin is still a grouch to the others. Her main hobby is being an eel and lunging at anyone who comes near. She likes to chase other pigs out of their homes, then follow them to another home and chase them out of that one too. But she looks like a cute rat!
THEIR HOME
The pigs live in a custom 4 by 6 foot cage we made by merging 3 MidWest Guinea Habitat cages. We cut the seams of the cage bottoms and joined them into one large cage liner with duct tape and super glue. Now we have a MidWest cage of triple the size! The pigs first lived in the 3 cages connected by ramps.
The bedding is fleece blankets with towels underneath and newspaper on the bottom. Each day we change one third of the bedding and spot clean several times. Their cage is on cheap folding tables so we can easily clean and watch the pigs.
The pigs prefer free stuff to actual guinea pig toys. They love to hide under packing paper. A DIY guinea pig house made from a cardboard box is a favorite hidey. They are not interested in most chew toys.
THEIR FOOD
Their favorite hay is 3rd cutting timothy hay from Small Pet Select. They nibble hay cubes. They gobble up guinea pig pellets.
Their water bottle is a 26 ounce Living World Eco+ glass bottle. They drink most of it in a day.
They eat nearly any vegetable. The only thing rejected so far was zucchini. Their favorites are parsley, kale, collard greens, kohlrabi, carrot tops and roots, beets, bell peppers, corn with the husk, and cucumbers. They go wild for homemade wheatgrass sprouts.

Please note the pigs are not trying to hurt each other. If they were, they would lock into a single ball of fur and roll around on the floor biting each other. The lunge Acorn does here is one of their tools for working out who is stronger without resorting to a serious fight.

This makes me wonder if I could do a rebonding with my piggies. If you are willing i have a video i just uploaded called (Dominance or Un-bonding?) I was advised by many in a guinea pig group on FB to separate permanently because the bond has been broken. But after seeing this video and knowing there has never been fur flying or blood drawn if i should take them to a larger floor time area and try a rebonding. if your able to watch it and advise thank you in advance if not well i will think about rebonding later after a few months since they are still under a yr old and may change.

@@MarrisaPlays Hmmm, I'm not sure on that one. My overall impression is that it seems a bit worse than what our pigs did here. When I watched our pigs fight in slow motion I was relieved to see they weren't really biting each other and most of the commotion was actually a scramble to get away from each other. In your video it's hard to tell exactly what happens but it looks more like the pig is biting and holding on while flying through the air. There also didn't seem to be much warning through teeth chattering which makes me think it might not be the most productive aggression. We adopted all our pigs as adults so I'm not sure how their growth might affect their relationships. If you do try to rebond them, be sure to start in an area with no houses for them to hide in. They can get a bit territorial over them and fights can escalate if they get trapped inside. We made that mistake when we got our pigs. We also stick to a rule that all houses should have at least 2 doors, since even when our pigs are at peace they can get a bit nippy. With multiple doors everyone has an escape route. Sorry I can't say for sure. I would be curious to hear how it goes though. Pig aggression is something our research didn't fully prepare us for when we got our pigs. It's always nice to get more data on how pigs work!

@@ItsPigs Yeah its really hard to tell I have a possible huge area that can be made as small as i want for rebonding later. I was completely blindsided by this fight but the older piggie did step in and basically in human terms "told off each piggie" while i had the other in my hands checking for fur or bites. she did a little chase while making what i hear as "bitching" squeaks. But in the video from all the times i have watched it it looks like after Georgia lunged JJ lunged back trying to escape, and the force of that plus the food dish behind Georgia caused them to flip. And you are correct either Georgia doesn't teeth chatter or she does it so quietly i have never heard it. I have heard JJ chatter at me when she is upset and Lucy (the older grey in the background) is very noticeable when she chatters. Georgia just makes this odd distressed booping sound similar to normal piggie wandering sounds but with a noticeable "bitching" feel to it. We do have mostly fiddle stick hides or 2+ door box hideys i have made. Lucy came to us after spending a very long time at a shelter alone and seems a little distressed when she doesn't have access to the Igloo specifically. I think its like her security blanket knowing its in the cage for her if she wants it. If its missing she seems to whimper and walk around looking for it. I want to thank you for taking the time to watch that and reply. Obviously, you can understand when i posted that in the piggie group im in i got alot of "separate now and permanently" but i had to shut off comments after fights starting breaking out between those people and the ones with other opinions. I wanted to get a 2nd opinion from someone who had a fight somewhat similar. I will wait till i have the ability to make the main cage more open before i try a rebonding. I have 2 ideas in mind depending on how a rebonding goes i just need more panels and chloroplast. Again thank you for your time.

@@MarrisaPlays No problem! Sounds like a tough situation and you are being a very responsible pig parent. I agree a more open cage would help. We started with our pigs in 3 Midwest cages in a line but the ramps and even the 2 foot width felt like a bottleneck when they would chase each other. We hacked the 3 cages into one 4 by 6 foot cage and it's a lot easier for them to evacuate now when someone gets grumpy, even though it's the same total surface area. Good luck with your pigs!

I once had a guinea pig just as aggressive and assertive as Acorn. She was named Gabriella and absolutely dominated every cage mate, size or sex didn’t matter, she was always boss. Rumble strutting, teeth chattering and false bite attacks were her thing. And she would always steal food from other pigs, then hoard it in her pigloo for later. Never met a personality quite like it since ah I miss her.

Oh my GOD! your guinea pigs' noises scared my CAT! I hope these two got seperated for their own good. as I commented in the previous video about acorn and pumpkin fighting, my guinea pigs had to be seperated. The inciting incident for this move was when I tried to seperate them, and the oldest, B'lanna bit my hand. I had the scar for a year. It was an accident of course, she was aiming for Tribble trying to get in one last fuck you. But she had something on her teeth that set off my allergies, so my whole hand was hot with inflammation for days. It got to the point where I thought to myself "if this doesn't start getting better by monday, I'm going to the local urgent care clinic." It did get better by monday, but not without a LOT of Ice and Aleve. As a former guinea pig owner of two guinea pigs that fought, when your guinea pigs act like this its in their best interests to seperate them! Its all fun and games until someone gets bit, and they have VERY strong heads and jaws, they can bite HARD.
