Omg. I can’t believe there are parents out there who actually ask these things. I couldn’t be a teacher. Because the parents would drive me nuts. So hats off to all teachers!

For the parent whose child is afraid of public restrooms: sounds like sensory processing disorder. My daughter was the same and I talked to her pediatrician who referred us to occupational therapy. It’s done wonders and she was able to go into kindergarten without issue. She really hasn’t had any issues using the bathroom at school. She is a happy thriving first grader now.

Automatic toilets are the worst! They are loud and flush w/o warning. The other issue I’ve found for little kids is the toilet seat is typically not a closed ring. Many kids are scared they’ll fall in because of the opening. Finally, newly toilet trained children often struggle to use any toilet outside of home.

@@Flipper86 when i was a kid, there was a fear of alligators coming up from the toilet and biting you in the butt while you were sitting! it was a real scare in my school - the silly thing is nobody in town was on a sewer system! we somehow missed that fact

Could be, I also knew someone growing up that was scared to use a public restroom because their mother was so anti them using one. The if you had to then you had to cover the whole seat with toilet paper before you sat down etc.

Not a parent request, but I got an e-mail from a 6th grader today, telling me she shouldn't have a failing grade in my class (I've only entered 2 grades up to this point, and she didn't turn one of them in). I'm a music teacher, and part of the grade is filling out practice records. Her excuse was that "I don't take my instrument home, so I can't fill out a practice record". She felt like she should have a better grade because she's "such a good student", and that other students also don't do their practice records (and they also have 0 for those grades). Umm, how about do the class work?

@EH23831 I talked to her, and told her that once we had more assignment grades, her overall average would go up, but just like any other class, if you don't do the work, you don't get credit. Part of the problem being an elective is, we don't have all the same type of assignments as a "core" class, so somehow that makes ours optional in the eyes of some parents and students. No, my CLASS is optional; the WORK I assign my students is not.

I know of a parent that yells at her child's teacher every time she sees him because in her opinion, he is not controlling her child's behavior properly but yet she forbids him to even speak to her son. She expects him to get her son to behave in class by demanding that he is to do nothing. Yes, the admin agrees with her.

Cool that the parent thinks you can change the moon's cycle - you must exude authority to them!

The no-tech parents need to join an Amish community. How dare they decide to ensure their child cannot, will not be able to be a productive member of society. The messages you read is all the evidence I need to know too many parents do not have an inkling as to what is best for their children.
@robertvermaat21244 күн бұрын
HOW did the 'tech-free' parent send that message to the teacher? By carrier pidgeon?? 😁

For a long time my special needs son was terrified of public restrooms. It was like 1 1/2 years of it because of loud sounds. Eventually we found loopholes, first of porta potties, and then airline toilets. Don't ask why a toilet in an airport is better.

I worked for a school system for over 20 years, not as a teacher (I’d get fired the first day) but in the transportation office. Some of the phone calls that we’d get? Yeah, they’d fit right in on here. Example of one (from a parent) Could we move the bus stop time for her kids because it was interfering with her making them pancakes for breakfast (I couldn’t make this up) another example (from a school contact)…Don’t you have something better to do than track these kids? I don’t have the time to keep contacting the parents to get the right information to update their records! (Thankfully, I didn’t take either of these phone calls, I’d have been fired on the spot!

Ok, I know this isn’t all teachers cuz some of you are very dedicated and love your students & your job but I have heard too many teachers complain about everything and then get 14-16 weeks off every year while making $75k a year. No! Personally I think school should be year round. Four quarters with two weeks in between. Summer vacation was created in the farming days and is obsolete. And parents need to be more involved. The education of their children is their responsibility and they should be required to discipline their children and make sure homework is completed. If you’re not going to raise your child and do it properly, don’t have children. It is not the responsibility of teachers to raise your child.
@RockyDaTherapist10 күн бұрын
75K is considered poverty at least in California and the teachers don’t get paid during summer.

"Can you change the full moon?". How can an adult ask that? No, unfortunately, changing the moon's orbit is not within human power. Maybe it would be if we advanced into a godlike Kardashev Type 2 civilization. But not for a very very long time.
