Yeah, that's about right. The M249 was my assigned weapon when I was in the Army. I'm only 5'5" and I was a runt back then. My unit commander liked the idea of giving the smallest soldiers an M249 because we had to carry it on long ruck marches. But I digress...every time I had to reload it, the darn thing jammed. So I had to perform P.O.P.S. Additionally, every time I opened the feeding chamber, a spring would shoot out and cut me in the flesh between my thumb and index finger. So I would have to patch myself up in addition to the time it took for the reload. PUBG players are missing out on half the experience!

The demonstrator turns his head and moves his hand to protect against what I took for granted as having to get hit lol. And the last line said it was sometimes incorrectly called a "Squad Assault Weapon". We were told to call it that lol. They need to trickle this training on to the military intelligence units!

That's not what the guts of an M249 looks like... Also ironic, reloading a real one doesn't take that long. If you run it to just a few rounds left, pop the old box off, put the new one on, and then pop the tab off the new belt's first round and snap the two together, if you want to be slow. Otherwise, if you run it empty, pop the bolt back, put the safety on, pop off the empty box, put the new one on, pop the feed cover, pull the belt across, and pop the cover shut. The longest part of either one is getting the new box on the gun...

I just now saw this video come up as a suggestion. I was a SAW M-249 gunner in the Army (my 1st sgt thought it was funny to make the shortest people in our company carry M-249s on long ruck marches.) Those weapons do take a long time to reload and jam a lot after firing only one shot. Every time I opened it to clear it, the damn thing cut my thumb. Bloody hell literally.

I swear, after Modern Warfare 2 I picked up the reloading after every few bullets. Before that it was fine to actually shoot a mag empty. But in MW2 it was just more logical to always reload rather than risk running out of ammo in the next firefight. Add to that the relatively fast death-respawn cycle and it just makes sense.
