I have been looking forward to Avowed for a long time but the other day Avowed was made availble for the first time for pre-order and they are charging a whopping 70 Euros for the normal on day one game and an insane 90 Euros for the Early Access version...and this is outrageous!

@@anthonymoore7648 The Outer Worlds is fantastic. I just finished up anther playthrough and I enjoy it each time. It is "Fallout Lite Easy Going." The Good: 1. Writing is top notch. 2. New IP worldbuilding. 3. Companions are excellent. 4. Gameplay is fluid and generally easy, even on "Supernova." (that may be a Con too) 5. Builds are fairly varied. Stealth Sniper, Science, Melee, Companion, Heavy Weapons/Armor. 6. Visuals and Sound are excellent. The Bad: 1. It is short, although with the 2 DLC it isn't as short as everyone tends to make out. 2. It doesn't have nearly as much choice and consequence as other similar titles. 3. Economy isn't interesting and "bits" (money) are easy to come by. 4. Story is a satire through and through. (that may be a Positive too) I highly recommend it.

I hate this argument about how the price was "freeze" in place for so long....it complete ignore all the factors that made so the price would stay still, 1 - no more physical media, they literary have no limit for how many copies they can sell 2 - extremely cheaper price of distribution, the logistic cut alone! 3 - the buyer don't own the copy of the game and so they can't sell "used", which pretty much killed the reselling of games that was more "damaging" to the industry than piracy (believe it or not). 4 - they will cut the game into 3-4 peaces and sell it as "DLCs" What we are seen is a form of Game elitizations, the companies see their product as an "Premium" product, and want to sell only for a few millions for an extreme price, in their mind it lower the risk (since they have to sell less) and creates division in "quality" that they can exploit, they can than make smaller games with a lower budget and price for the usual $50 as an lower tier product. If you buy this, you are part of the problem and you can expect another hike in price next year.

This is a line in the sand, and us gamers have been failing to uphold it for almost 2 decades now, leading to lootboxes, microtransactions, day 1 DLC, live service in games it has no business being one, games releasing in abominable half-coked state, predatory mobile games, scam crowd funding projects and the list goes on. I hate that people keep calling this "[X] days early access", when the reality is that they have the game available to be played on the day the supposed early access starts. There is no reason the game can not launch to the masses on that day. No, that extra 20 dollars is so you can play at launch. And if you didn't pay the extra money then you get to play it 5 days after the launch. This is a basic salesman scam practice. Also, I agree the price on this game is very disappointing. i agree 100% although steam is actual ownership, even if banned, you can play your games offline and still download them, also steam is the only platform to my knowledge with a infinite license that can't be broken by the license provider (Steam in that case), only by you, and it's the only platform with a DRM killswitch ( the thing that allows you to play your games offline ) meaning that if steam was ever to go down or out of business you'd be able to download the raw files of all your games, like a GOG copy. Now it's not perfect, you'd need weeks to download everything, so the earlier the notice from steam the better and you'd also need a shit ton of hardware space, but still. It's not something Epic is willing to do, nor ubisoft for exemple.

Honestly, no I’m personally not. I’m expecting Outerworlds with a medieval fantasy theme instead of Sci-Fi theme and the honestly that is not worth $90 either. If you already have game pass tho, this game probably be worth playing but it’s definitely not worth $90 unless that comes with a decently sized DLC with it and even then it’s questionable.

Not really, no. I didn't even know there were devotees of Eora in the first place because the writing of both PoE1 and PoE2 is clownish with very little charm or novelty and I'm expecting it to be even worse in Avowed.

@@viamdolor9226 This exactly. I enjoy most medieval fantasy games but objectively Dragon Age has a bigger and stronger standing in the gaming industry so it makes sense when they fumble it turns into a controversy while Avowed technically is new and radically different experience compared to PoE. I never looked at Avowed and expected record breaking story telling and dialogue that’s on par or better with Dragon Age but the recent Dragon Age fumbled so bad that Avowed has a decent chance of being better but not world shattering. But also the way the people who worked on Avowed express how the story and companion relationships should be done (Basically saying that if you can’t make something like romance as good as BG3, then you should just drop that aspect and focus on what you are good at) the game seems to also be made with a different philosophy as well. We will see tho.

“Games being $60 for so long is unfair to developers”, is a fallacy. Any one that says this is either disingenuous or ignorant. Game publishers and devs have been finding ways to monetize their product for years. Things like day one DLC, season passes, price hike “early access/ premium editions”. And lets be honest here. Sixty bucks got you way more back in the day. You got the game disc, the container which often had neat box art, and a game manual (showing my age here) that often also had neat art in it as well as a lot of useful information. That all cost the dev money in materials. Plastics, and paper and manufacturing costs to press and burn data onto discs and print booklets and box art. Yet the product remained $60 and the dev made profit. Now the industry expects $70 to $100+ for a digital product that costs nothing to reproduce because there’s nothing physical about it. Any one remember in the mid 2000s when there was a push for digital products and one of the promises was that because they didn’t have to print discs and boxes and such, that they would be cheaper to buy? What happened to that? Greed. The video game industry is one if the most if not the most profitable industry on the planet right now. All this talk about “games are too cheap for how expensive they are to produce” is just a lie. As for Avowed. I like RPGs like this and already have game pass, so I’ll definitely end up playing it. And if I like it enough to want to own a copy and not simply digital access to a limited copy on a subscription service, I’ll buy a copy cheap when it’s on sale. That’s what I do with most games I want these days.

I hear you, and you make some good points. For my part, I'll be buying and likely pre-ordering. I don't like how Microsoft is using this to promote Gamepass...but I would rather overpay for Avowed than not have Avowed released. And to be honest, as great as Pillars 1 and 2 were, there was no plans for a sequel because of low sales, until Microsoft stepped in. I don't like this dynamic, but I'm willing to pay the higher prices to get this game.

Both previous pillars games were crowdfunded. this is not a triple a developer working on this title and it should not be priced as such. Number one. number 2, as is tradition now, the game is finished and has a lot of content that will be cut only to be released later down the line as "new content" in a roadmap. I can literally taste the blood in the water. EDIT: Unfortunately, I will no longer be playing avowed, The tactics Microsoft is using to funnel users into its tripe of a gaming hub service, all the while overpricing the game on third party publishers like steam on top of deliberately cutting content in order to release something akin to a battle pass or roadmap to milk the players is...condemnable. Obsidian, whether through ignorance or hubris, chose microsoft. The players will choose their sanity.

The Outer Worlds was also a smaller AA project. Something that the developers admitted themself. Yet it did not stop them or Microsoft, to sell it as a full AAA release for 60$+(depending on region). Same with other similar AA projects from other companies. Namco/SE are also a fantastic example of this trend. Most of their recent releases are AA games, yet they want 70$ for most of them now. Used to be 60$, before Sony started the trend. Even smaller indy games raised their prices because of it. Then you have the CEO of Capcom/Take 2 talking about games being too cheap, 70$ is too little for them, and they want you to pay 100$ for the standard edition. While still keeping all of the additional transactions in their games. Look how mad Bethesda is at the players that still play Skyrim to this day. They hate it, so much hours in that game, and they have no way to monetize it. So the next best thing is to force ppl in to a subscription based gaming. Then you have to pay them monthly. Older games, new games, it does not matter, as long as they will have a guaranteed income scheme. Then they will just rise the prices of these services till the market crashes. And start again when it happens.

Game companies thrive off of taking advantage of their most ardent supporters. If you provide maximum customer support by pre-ordering ir buying at launch, and thus giving the development company maximum financial support, you ultimately get the WORST DEAL. You get the game prior to being patched. You pay max price. You get nothing that someone who waits for a sale doesn't get, except for maybe some pre-order incentives.

I was a little hyped for Avowed, but now with this price, I confess that I'm a little discouraged. I'll probably have to pay for the GamePass, but I hate the idea of not owning the game. I'm a big fan of Steam because of the collection of games and achievements, as well as cloud saves. The worst part is that Avowed's marketing is ridiculous or almost non-existent. Very few people will buy it.

Although I agree with the dislike of the price increases in recent video games... Game length is not really a great metric to measure a game's worth. e.g. AC Valhalla - being the prime example of random fluff bumping up completion time for the game. If the game is 20-30 hours (assuming a non-completionist playthrough) of some of the best story and/or gameplay I've seen, I'm entirely fine with paying a decent price. But failing to be either of them will heavily impact my decision. In any case, I'll be sticking to reviews from trusted sources before buying anyway.

Microsoft has little incentive to offer good deals when they want to drive people to subscription/gamepass, and inflation in general is absurd anyway so corpos want to raise prices to match. The early access or play it 5 days early is a Microsoft thing. Look at Starfield, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and now Avowed. They all have a premium edition with playing early as the selling point. It's to get more money out of people even gamepass subcribers who can upgrade for like 20-30$ on top of the subcription. They also did it for Forza and previous games.

It's not that bad for a brand new decent AAA game Steam price in UK is £59.99 for Standard and £79.99 for premium ( including up to 5 days early access) so it's standard AAA game price in 2024. In 2007 AAA game average cost was around £49.99-59.99. Minimum wage was around £4.95 so it's not that bad considering that in 2024 AAA games cost £60-80.00 considering minimum wage being over £12.00 /H. Development of game is dependent on many factors: * Where game studio is based ( staff cost / rent cost / utility....) * Length of development / size of product... So think that its more of issues with prices localisation or rather lack of it ...
