I continue my travels through Andalucia, with a day return to Cádiz from Seville. After a couple of trips on high-speed trains, it's now time to try out a regional "Media Distancia" train.
It was also a really good excuse to get to Seville Santa Justa station a bit early so that I could really appreciate its wonderful modernist architecture. The curves of the station approach change to straight lines in the concourse, to then melt back into majestic curves at the platform level. For a station that is now 30 years old, it still feels fresh and vibrant and I love it!
Departure: Seville Santa Justa, Spain
Destination: Cádiz, Spain
Distance: 102 km / 64 miles
Duration: 1hr 41 mins
Cost: Adult standard (Turista) return €26,60 / £22.95
Date of Travel: December 2022
Operator: Renfe
Motive power: Renfe Media Distancia Class 449 electric multiple unit. Built: CAF (2008-2011)

Thanks Johnny. Love your movies. Found this one by chance whilst searching for the part one of your Cambrian coast trip. Cadiz is one of my favourite cities. If you return there’s a municipal run ferry across the bay from Cadiz to El Puerto de Santa Maria. If you time it right you can catch the sun setting across the bay.

Enjoyed this video. I rode this train on Sat Mar 2, 2024. Seville station was crowded: I bought the ticket same day 16.65 euro. I wish that I had taken time to enjoy the Seville station like you highlighted. The ride was pretty uneventful, but it got me to Cadiz safely. Thanks!

Great video - have been enjoying your Spanish series of videos after discovering your channel with the South West Coast Bus series. I think the metal thing is more of a bottle holder (like a plastic water bottle you get from shops) as opposed to a cup holder. When I go on a Spanish train, as I would like to explore this region, I will test it out! Keep up the great content across the UK and Europe!

Very good! Was at Inverness early this week to take the Highland Chieftain--and with time to spare. I thought how would I make a video here. So many decisions to make . I wouldn't know where to start. Just increases my admiration for what you do.

I have done this journey and wrongly got off at the Cadiz stadium station. Had to then get a bus into town. Cadiz is an interesting place served by tourist cruises. The old railway station is next door to the modern station which is really quiet for such a big city.

Yes I know what you mean about the old and new stations. I spend a bit longer looking at them in the video about the Cádiz tram-trains. I'd happily go back to Cádiz. I loved the old town, and the ride around the bay was lovely. Thanks for watching 👍

Hey! A quick note: The building of the Jerez station was built in 1928-1930 (The date isnt well known) The date that you put was the inauguration of the train stop. There was a provisinal building for more that 50 years

@@JohnnyHooverTravels It is intended as a cup holder, the standard cup you would get from the train catering or cafeteria would fit, and it looks very simila to that of the alstom AVE trains.

I think the answer is "that depends". I booked my journeys about two weeks in advance and I was pleased I did because I was travelling during a period of national holidays and the trains were fairly busy. I just tried to book tickets on the Renfe app for this journey tonight (Sunday) and both possible trains were showing fully booked.
