I live close to the North Sea coast here in Norfolk, U.K. Over years there have been some pretty bad storm tide surges here. Before I retired, I was a member of one of the Emergency Services, so I have first-hand experience of what they can do - and our storms are nothing compared to your hurricanes. You’ve both worked so hard on your new business. I sincerely hope your home and the shop survive unscathed, but whatever happens to them, stay safe. I appreciate the potential difficulties with communications, but I will be watching out for updates when you are able - just to know that your family is safe. As fast as tornado's appear there's no time to prepare and ya just have to hit the deck.
@zenithperigee7442Ай бұрын
@@charley95sheridan44 , yes, we've had several just randomly pop up over the years but a few yrs ago we had one come through here that fortunately stopped ~1 mile from me. I could see the upper funnel where it connects to the swirling clouds. It is definitely a unique sound that you don't forget. People chase these things professional or amateur with almost reckless abandon but when you don't know if in seconds of minutes it's going to come your way, destroy your home, injure/kill you or your loved ones, it's a rather terrifying reality. There was a "warning" on television for about an hour give or take. But nothing was unusual, I happened to be brushing my teeth and the lights flickered a few times and went out. This was unusual and I heard wind stirring, it was a bit confusing so I go to the front door, open it and there I see it.... I could hear that unique wind sound and damage being done in the distance. Then I saw what I'd call a "ghost tornado" emerge from the junction across the way, it was just "coming down the street", spinning with light dust and debris it was carrying about ~50 feet up. I just said "No! It has to go...." It reached the cross street and just vanished, dropping the debris and the large storm started to go quiet. There was a blast of wind and downpour and then trickle rain. The Fire Dept., could be heard in the distance being dispatched. There are usually about 5 ways in/out of here but all were blocked except one. My Family called and tried to get to me but they were on the other sides of debris, said it looked like a "warzone" with trees, power poles snapped blocking streets. Thankfully we still had water but power was down for a week. Eventually some local folks from Churches began making their way into the neighborhood with food and other supplies. The crazy thing is, that storm picked up and dropped down several times doing damage over a 40 mile stretch. There hadn't been one here like it in nearly 100 yrs, it was categorized based upon the "damage" it had done, at ~137mph.... There had been some vehicles overturned, some brick structures damaged/destroyed. Sadly one person died when a tree fell on his car. I know it was more localized but they actually did a great job at clearing and restoration. Far better than what people are experiencing with FEMA after Helene.... If it weren't for the volunteers, who knows what peril people would be in.

Bro, I love that you're taking care of your family, your property and youself. Wishing you guys the best from NW Broward. Spend some YT money in the future on a standby gen with an auto transfer switch and hurricane windows. I've done the panels before. Storage sucks. In my previous house we had hurricane nets. They come down at an angle to deflect anything. You can see through them which I like better than the panels. This house has hurricane glass and I have a 22KW standby gen that runs on natural gas. It powers the entire house automatically. Been through enough of these I wanted the least amount of prep. Being without electricity for almost 2 weeks changes your perspective on things. I lived through everyone of them in So. Fl. never left for any of them. Andrew and Katrina were the bad ones in my area. Milton might be worse than both of those.

Hi Ray, greetings from Australia and stay safe! I lived in Rockhampton (on the Tropic of Capricorn or a few years and had the eye of a Cat 3 cyclone go over the house. It was a two storey double brick house and we sheltered in the lower part of the house with mattresses stuffed in the stairwell in case we lost the top storey. When the eye went over we went outside and watched the clouds circle for the 30mins that the eye took to pass over. Could hear the roar of the wind as the eye wall approached and went and sheltered for a couple more hours. During the second half of the cyclone, the shed next door blew apart and a price of metal was embedded through an electricicity pole. A friend’s house was picked up and moved six inches on the stumps. The area we lived in was sheltered behind a 2000ft mountain so we were protected from the worst of it.
