Waymo One is Google's self-driving robotaxi service, currently deployed for public use in Chandler, Arizona. It works like Uber, and passengers select a destination from the app, and the vehicle takes you there. It's weird for about 30 seconds and then you get used to it. If I weren't filming, I would have just been on TikTok, probably!
The driving experience is something like a new 17-year-old driving - a bit jerky, but ultimately it felt safe. The unprotected left towards the end was a touch alarming, but the car was pulling out so its lidar sensors could see up the road.

Imagine the future, me in the back watching TV, surfing the internet, grabbing a cold beverage and maybe even having a meal...all while driving through L.A. traffic. Yep yep. Sounds good to me!

I think it’s pretty cool for an autonomous vehicle. I mean, it still probably needs improvement, but it’ll only get more advanced.

Less accidents on roads in my opinion with self driving. IDK if California has self driving service yet but would love try it

The same company offers the same service in San Francisco, though I believe there is a wait-list to be able to use it.

When they get it right, sure, far less wrecks!. But imo it's a long way off.

This is gas powered, we need all electric! Waymo should give it at least a 5 mph above speed allowance.

Great video! I’m performing an academic research on fully automatic self driving cars and would be delighted to learn more about your experience with Waymo. Please let me know if you are open to chat more about it.

I just had a Waymo coming towards me off of a busy street onto a small side street. There was no speed limit sign and I am guessing it was going 5-10 mph in this 30 mph zone. There were 3 cars behind it and one waiting to turn. As soon as it and the other 4 cars passed me, it pulled over and the 4 cars went around (rather quickly). From what I have found, the crashes involving Waymo cars were when the Waymo was going well under the speed limit. One specifically was going 50 in a 65. For curiosity's sake though, how much did that little jaunt cost you?
@prndlcars

It was $6 to go a mile and a half. It was near enough to the cost of an Uber that they were basically identical (pretty sure that's not a coincidence!) And yeah, the cars are definitely super cautious. It goes to show that it's not just (excessive) speed that causes crashes - going too slow for conditions does as well!
@Sommers234

@@prndlcars Mostly it's rude, ignorant (including distracted) drivers that cause wrecks. You can drive slow in the far right lane and you can drive fast in open road,,,neither of which are a problem. It's the dopes who drive slow in the passing lanes and drive fast in congested areas.

Yes because there is a difference between Uber and waymo. But I think what is about to happen here that the basically went waymo gets into Seattle soon there will be a lot of people using the service including blind people who have to get to work. As a matter of fact that's why there's a place called The lighthouse for the blind. Tony said about bus taking them to work let's see away mode self-driving car take them to work. It would be very good. And it would save gas!

Them spinning sensors would get plugged with bugs after about 20 miles of driving around here. Probably not a problem in a sterile concrete jungle. Going to be lots of stuff smoked in these things and tons of babys made I imagine. Bring a blacklight next ride.

@Hayden Lau A job is a job you're response way too naive and callous to be taken seriously. Literally anyone of our jobs could be taken away from AI there is no such thing as find a "more valuable job" the world isn't cut and dry. Things are not going to happen smoothly just because you think it should. There needs to be regulations that protect workers or some sort of financial assistance like UBI soon when most jobs become automated if not your magical AI ruled autonomous utopian future will become a dystopia nightmare...it's already happening.
@HaydenLau.
@HaydenLau. Жыл бұрын
@@Mr.Universe Some jobs are harder to be taken away. There's a hierarchy. The more complex and unpredictable the harder it is for AI to take over. Not coincidentally they are also the more valuable jobs. Eventually most or all jobs will be taken over but first, we might not live to see it and second, they probably will have figured out some sort of welfare state to cope with that by then. In any case, improving your job will allow you to feed your family for longer. They may replace taxi drivers soon, but they'll definitely not replace computer programmers before that.

I don't like that right turn on red behavior. As a cyclist, I was alerted when drivers would keep inching forward when they had a red light. I don't like the red-light creepers when I'm driving, either. All things equal, I'd prefer if these cars would actually stop at red lights. What do these auto-drive systems do when someone honks a horn? Do they detect the sound? Do they change their behavior at all?

This works, unlike "mass producible Tesla fsd beta". Waymo can bolt their system onto any vehicle, 18-wheeler trucks are even making deliveries.
