I had mine 10yrs now. It's still as fantastic as the day I got it and I wouldn't trade it for anything. The bike and I have become one. This is the best video I can find that gives a proper assessment of what the experience is like on this RR. I do have a Bandit 1250 I switch off with. But I've done 47k miles on the BMW. Best bike I've ever owned and never needs any extreme mods. Just as good as ANY MODERN LITER BIKE 👍

@the_norty_rider I've owned over 20 motorcycles in the past 25yrs. I do all my own maintenance. It's one of my favorite bikes as far as riding experience but they're very expensive to have serviced and have potential issues. If you can get a new one under warranty your better off unless you can do the maintenance yourself. Beautiful riding experience though

I just had a chance to ride this bike and I said... it's such an easy bike to ride... and then I see your review in the suggested videos list and I laughed so hard when you said it's such an easy bike to ride... I mean that is exactly what I felt! And I hope people don't die because I forgot to warn them like you did. But would you really die? The power comes in, so smooth... I think people who have at least ridden 600s can control it easily.

For me this was a great review, a very "real world" road review. My only reservation about this bike has been the comparatively high number of engine/transmission failures over the years. I've been keeping my eye out to see if this has been corrected, and last I checked it's still happening, but apparently not as often. At the same time owners are reporting high mileages with no engine problems whatsoever, which I expect will be the norm. Unlike some people who go through bikes like they do short term relationships, I tend to keep my bikes for many years and pile on the miles. I don't personally feel as comfortable or confident about the reliability and long term durability at this point to be comfortable buying one. Again, don't get me wrong, I am not saying this is a terribly unreliable bike or anything like that, I'm simply stating the fact that it has a history of blowing transmission/engines at a higher percentage than most if not all others in its class, and that's enough to make me uncomfortable with it. It also has several other less serious issues that aren't deal-breakers that have either been already remedied or appear to be reasonably easily remedied for the most part. I'd also be interested in the new S1000R, but being that it uses the same engine I have the same reservations about it. I know the incidence of these major failures is generally pretty low, just the fact that it's still happening combined with my often worse than average luck, of course it would be the one I bought that would end up grenading as soon as it was out of warranty! lol

I am getting S1000R in about 2 week time frame - and what they had to say about the bike is that they learn there lesson in development on S1000RR. So you should not be afraid to buy new bike - warranty is there and BMW is really easy on replacing and providing new bike if one that you buy have any issues. Engine issues that you refer was for models 2010/11 and we are sitting now in 2014 on way to 2015 :)
@MotorcycleExtremist11 жыл бұрын
Inspirikus Congrats on the new bike, and I know they've gotten better since then, but still some engines are blowing. Also BMW is ranked at the very bottom (last place) for reliability compared to every Japanese manufacturer, and even ranked below Harley Davidson. Those are the facts.

So, is this a good starter bike. I've never ridden a motorcycle and the reason people say not to buy a 600cc or high is because you will wheelie.
@100GTAGUY11 жыл бұрын
The wheelie part is a lie, truth is if you have no experience you'll end up flat on your ass with an inline 4 or something else way too powerful for your skills. Id recommend going to a dealership and asking them what the best starter bike is, then go take a motorcycle training course. But if you dont want to do all that go find a used dirtbike (preferably a smaller cc 4-stroke, 100-300cc) and have a friend teach you the basics. I learned how to ride on a 60cc when i was 6 and i dont regret it one bit, seeing how im riding a KX250 2-stroke and still respecting the throttle on it because it spools up from about 25hp at 3-5k rpm to 55hp at 5-7.5k rpm. Just do what you're comfortable with though, it makes riding more enjoyable when learning.
