As with most good art, Blade Runner was ahead of its time.

This is my absolute favorite Ridley Scott film. It is just incredible even if you just pay attention to the art, the background, the effects. The actors were all extraordinary, too.

It took 25 to 30 years for people to take their heads out of their asses and realize how timeless and amazing this movie is, the sad part is, most people STILL dont realize it. I just saw this movie 2 years ago for the first time, i didnt know much about film or hype so i didnt care too much, i definitely didnt expect it to be the type of movie it was. I was pleasantly surprised and amazed. I was late to the party but realized it was something special, shame on the people who didnt.

Ford did Deckard justice. He's dislike for the 'tough 'shoot' came across in his acting and created a brooding Deckard, which Dustin Hoffman probably would not have done if he was cast in the role. Besides, working in all that smoke would piss anybody off.

Deckard as a man or a replicant: Sounds pretty definitive to me.... Deckard is "...a tough *man*, even a violent man, a man without relationships, and a man who's very into himself." Key word: man
@tryscience Жыл бұрын
Hunting down human looking replicants as his job, Deckard is probably a paranoid, depressive, drinks too much.... Quite the laundry list of HUMAN responses to the situation. Unlike for example, a replicant which would "develop its own emotional responses... Hate anger fear envy".. to stimuli, which is why they were unpredictable and dangerous and illegal on Earth. Depressed humans however, are par for the course lol

i think no actor in this movie has had a better performance in later movies. was it ridley scott who managed to extract it from them, or was it the movie itself --the combined talents of philip k. dick, the script writers, and the director, with the actors responding to the sheer brilliance of this story they were in?

Rick Deckard is comparable to Philip Marlowe as well as tons of tough guy detectives in films and tv shows, but he coulda kicked Marlowe's ass. Not to mention he coulda out-hammered Mike Hammer, but that's just me. Harrison Ford was the very best as science fiction's ultimate detective, a film version of Lije Baley from Asimov's Robot books, tough, world weary, with nerves that threaten to snap any second. Bureaucrat maybe, but still heroic enough to tough it out against incredible odds. His performance remains his best, say what you will about Witness (which I liked but not as much as BR) and he totally rocks the trenchcoat! Thirty five years as the Blade Runner, and who can debate that kinda commitment to Ford Quality. THE BEST BUILT, BEST SELLING AMERICAN FILMS ARE STILL.....FORD TOUGH!!!!

Ford is certainly flexible in his talent. He was perfect in "Witness" and equally deft in Blade Runner. Okay, he's a cop in both, but they're quite different kinds of cops. He has this Mickey Rourke quality where he can be very tough but at the same time convey this great humanity, but without competing with Rourke because he does it totally his own way. I swear, if he doesn't get an Oscar, historians will always wonder why he was robbed (at least he was nominated for best actor in Witness).

Id like to see Harrison bk as deckard and just make him younger with use of cgi, it worked for that bejammin button film. Also Id luv to see Russel Crowe in a Balderunner film, cus he works so well with Ridley and Ive never seen Crowe do a sci-fi movie. Plus seeing crowe and harrison in a movie together wud b very interesting.

Ford plays an unpleasant character in this movie who changes because of the various experiences he has, especially at the end when he gets the crap kicked out of him by Roy Batty who then saves his life. His character is completely different from any other he's portrayed and his best role IMO.

This story and movie were so far ahead of it's time that I think part of it was just luck. We didn't have the vocabulary in 1982 to describe what a replicant is in this story and I think there's hold over confusion from the terms and concepts of the book. These replicants are clones engineered for specific tasks with enhanced abilities. They are human the problem is in typical monkey with a machine gun fashion we have god like technology without god like wisdom and create in this story an obviously immoral dark reality doomed to eventual breakdown. We can create a term replicant to try and abstract ourselves from what we're doing and what they are but anyone could see that is headed for disaster. Having said all that I still am in total confusion as to the relevance and substance of the Deckard being a replicant. I feel like we still don't have to full real story there.
