Anomalous is a band I haven't thought about in forever. Definitely ahead of the curve regarding Tech Death.

Hearing my kids trying to get my attention in between my linear stream of consciousness rambling is hilarious #dadlife This video has re inspired me to learn how to play this whole song all over again, it’s my duty, I wrote it hahahaha oh god I’m scared lol. I am super impressed by your analysis and breakdown AND performance! That really got me fired up! I’m really proud that something we created has affected someone else in a positive way;) great video Calder!;)

You definitely should be proud, this album is a ridiculously impressive achievement and I'm sure many people watching this video and elsewhere thank you for it. If you don't mind a quick question I'm curious about the tuplets at 7:03, would be interesting to know if they were originally more like 16th note triplets that just got a bit of off-grid time bending (guessing since that would also add up to 21 notes) or if you actually set out to evenly divide a bar of 7/8 into an 11-tuplet and a 10-tuplet. In the end it doesn't really matter either way since the notes played are the notes played, mostly just trying to gauge how insane you guys are.

@@Blackerer my kids didnt come along until 2014 and later, this song was started in 2010 or earlier. I think we just stopped caring about genre and pulled from everything we love without filter:)

@@MaXaNoMaLoUs Groundbreaking art is groundbreaking, because the artists have so many different influences, with nitpicks and even objections to some aspects, that there is almost nobody with the same profile, then they take it and mastefully mix these influences together in a way that works. It's not just Ion Dissonance, there is so much more here and it works together great.

Thank you so much for making this! Just wanted to say that Ohmnivalent was co-written by yours truly, especially the nasty and more dense parts. Although, to be honest I kind of forget who wrote what exact part. Moreover, a good third or so of the album was written by Nate Vennarucci. He wrote a large amount of Bicruciforms which I think is an album highlight. Shout out to Marco Pitruzella as well for playing the insane drums I programmed!

Thank you! And absolutely, my bad for not mentioning you in the video - Max was clear to spread the credit when I talked to him, should have put some of those quotes in there too! Putting a note in the description about it now, and will make it clearer when I do the next video about this song! You guys are awesome!

you guys made a unique gem that will forever be available to the listener who's willing to dig for it. i am so glad i found that album and immediately after found ontogeny, nothing in your catalogue disappoints and you should be very, very proud of yourselves. also agreed the lord continues to KILL IT on the drums

@@timhalo7898 i especially love the phantom love / phantom hate tracks on hymns of ahriman, the dual guitar work from ohmnivalent was palpable from the first note of that album and whoever drummed that lp absolutely crushed it. binary resurrection is also one of the greatest works ive ever heard, it just scratches an itch nothing else quite does, feel the same about panacaea and bicruciforms as you mentioned. hope you guys are doing well

Sounds interesting, will check out the album. Great analysis as well, the sequencing of mini-riffs seems a little like Chimp Spanner approaches his music, although generally much more complex Have you heard the new Ashenspire record? I think you might like it.

Guess I have another tech death album to check out. And actually was really cool to hear metal musician talking about Vangelis. Also - I have a recurring question in my mind about your right hand - did you learn to hold it this way or it comes naturally? I've been trying to teach myself to keep my fingers fold when I play (so I can use some economy picking too), but it feels kind of uncomfortable.
@metalmusictheory5401
@metalmusictheory5401 2 жыл бұрын
This way feels natural now, but in the beginning learning to economy pick nothing felt natural for the first few months... I've never really paid attention to it, but I guess a lot of guitarists hold the pick a little differently than I do? I always thought of it as a jazz thing to like pinch it more with the pad of the index finger and keep the other fingers straight, but since I started noticing it I've seen a lot of metal guitarists do it too. I imagine there's more than one way that can work
