Rifle Scabbard for Mules and Horses, How I Carry a Rifle on my Saddle Mule or Horse. The Best Method

There are many ways to carry a rifle on your saddle animal. Some mount them in front of the saddle, some behind the saddle, some on the off side, some on the on side. In this video I show you how I mount mine. I ride with mine under my fender on the side I get on. I make my own scabbard and developed the perfect scabbard over the last 40 years. Check it out

I like your set-up my friend! You made a really nice scabbard! Everytime I am riding with a scabbard it hurts my knee but its probably because I only do it once a year or so! Good luck with everything!

They definitely have to get broken into your legs and shape

Try lowering the scabbard with longer straps. It hurts my knees too, but lower helps.

Looks like a great set up. "How do I do mine"? Well, I have that stubby little carbine hung straight up and down. Yours has more reach, but guiding, I never got to shoot it anyway!

Pretty sure theirs nothing I can teach you. But I do have a question. Never rode much rifle hunting, but when I did I found he rifle weight was enough to tip the saddle to the rifle side. Cinch too loose, Some magic string Im missing????? I think a video on how to teach you rule or horse to handle Timber Tigers , flying velociraptors and other such dangers????? Other than experience, any tips?

Well a tighter cinch would probably help, i try to counter it. I put item’s in my pommel bag and saddle bags to help offset the weight. As far as the spooky stuff, i try to work as much out when im doing ground work and training. You hit it right on the head though, time in the saddle is the best. Many miles and wet blankets. Hello….so from what I’ve read and looked up…..it seems the only rifles you can safely store on a horse are lever actions and standard solid stock bolt action rifles (with lever actions being more) Is there a reason for this or is it just because it goes with the whole cowboy hunting aesthetic?

I don’t even own a lever action gun. I hunt with a solid stock bolt action and what I’ve always packed. I wouldn’t be afraid to pack any gun on my stock, fold up stocks would be more challenging bit not out of the question. You’d just need a case that would facilitate it and watch which side to pack it on so it was flat.

Not sure how you’d attach it or where? What’s your thoughts? They have a couple straps with D rings to suspend them with. Biggest question is where you’d attach it?

@@idahomountainbuilt It could be attached to the frame, but you would have to be careful of heat from the exhaust. I normally carry it strapped to a back pack, but that is problematic because it stick way up. My question is how comfortable it would be. I am assuming your leg goes over the rifle?

I do ride with my leg over it, that works for me
