If you’re a devoted follower of the Rig Rundown series, you’ve probably noticed our recent rash of thrash. We’ve featured nearly every corner of the genre-heavyweights Megadeth, torchbearers Anthrax, revivalists Municipal Waste, and, now, pioneers Exodus get their (re)visit. Their four-decade reign and 11 gnashing albums are brimming with sinister, trouncing, wood-splitting riffs and vividly vicious narratives. And the blade of this chainsaw collective is its longest-tenured member, fretboard flyer Gary Holt, whose last Rig Rundown appearance was in 2015.
During the afternoon of Exodus’ middle slot for the ongoing The Bay Strikes Back tour-featuring neighbors Testament and Death Angel-at Nashville’s Brooklyn Bowl, Holt’s tech Steve Brogden invited PG’s Perry Bean onstage to catalog the thrasher’s setup. In this RR, Brogdon details the murderous axes, custom cabs, and more that Holt is packing into the trailer and onto the stage.

Met this dude..and the band last night in Pittsburgh..great guy...very cool...if anyone spends more time with their fans than Exodus did with us..Id like to know which band..they literally sign everything even though theres a limit....without any irritation..talk to all members 1:1...take endless photos with u on multiple cameras no problem. Everything about the way they conducted themselves impressed me....treat u like like family. Highly recommend VIP experience. They also charge wayyy less than other bands n these dudes are thrash legends. Gary Holt was too awesome.

Great stuff! Steve is super cool... he also plays guitar in a really dope thrash band called Nukem. The other guitar player in that band is Gene Hoglan's wife, Laura Christine.

@@bt43arno.. Zakk chose not to use it.. one of the only things he is really using that dime did is a noise gate. He is using all of his gear and his amps Wylde Audio. That is why his tone sounds nothing like Dimes. Zakk sounds very muddy and doesn’t cut through the mix very well.

really would have liked to have heard that rig in a demo style. Gary has such tight sound and a little surprised on the amp choice, but since they said a lot of it is coming from the pedal would've really liked to heard it. I know Gary has played Marshalls, Peaveys, ENGLs. Love his variety

I always wanted an EC1000 and when i finally started looking for one i found the black and red gh600? And its one of my fav guitars. It feels good easy to play thin neck, couldnt be happier. Play it way more than my les paul, its just a super nice guitar straight out of the box very little set up and it looks killer black and red

I just thought of Exodus after hearing Zetro's gone..... bummed, but Dukes is worthy again....anyhow, I forgot how he went back to Marshall's....I know lots of ppl love the Dukes era ( me too, even tho I'm sad to see Zet go, but whatever ....) & frankly Gary's tone was MONSTROUS on these albums ( SHKM, AE 1 & 2 etc. ) & if I remember correctly he was using high gain monster amps like the Peavey XXX & various ENGLs, but then during his Slayer stints he was just cranking the good 'ol DSL Marshall's & then these Jubilee's in Exodus again. Would be curious to see what his amp choices are going forward, since the Dukes stuff is arguably heavy AF...... he's always had great tone & chops to burn so whatever happens, I'm sure will rule!

Love his Guitars, though Ive never heard a single Exodus song. Not a metal fan. I like some metal...but hard rock mostly. Not death metal. Nooo!!! No thank you, sir! I like Iron Maiden...some Metallica (tho I'm not really a fan). Ummm...Linkin Park.. NIN.. Smashing Pumpkins.. Marilyn Manson.. Korn..
