I really liked gruff although I don’t know why it’s called gruff if anyone see’s this please tell me why if you know but my opinion on the movie is that it was great the only thing I didn’t like is that it was a bit woke I honestly thought it was gonna be an hour long but 10 minutes is still pretty good I mean I know the trials and errors of making an animation so I can blame him but overall my rating is 8.5/10

My grandpa was always so quiet. Hed only grunt or snicker but it was rare to have an actual conversation with him. He loved old westerns and passed last christmas due to cancer watching his favorite shows. I miss him i wish i couldve seen things from his perspective more. I remember i didnt say much to him when he was in the hospital for the last time, i just touched his hand and i cant honestly remember if id said i love you. I really hope he could feel it.

Having just lost my own dad to cancer this year.. seeing that empty room and the iv and chairs brought genuine dread and heartache back into my body that I hoped to never experience again.. this is an absolute masterpiece and such a beautiful passion project that I will never have enough words to describe how amazing this single little short film is. I still miss my dad a lot.. he was.. never around all that much. But I loved him dearly as a child... This hit really close to home about the whole drifting apart thing.. only it was my dad who drifted from me and my mom. Anyways, thank you so much for your hard work and this gorgeous film ❤

I love how the super-spy's action and praise is described as "living LOUDER", how she craved and chased the SOUND of applause, but found the deepest love in *silence.* The narration unifies the theme with its own language. And an even deeper irony is that this film's most demonstrative moments aren't characters exchanging witty dialogue, but them quietly touching hands and being close. The narration describes the characters' mindsets, and then the visuals deliver the gut punching catharsis.

Even down to the way Abuelo was designed, it was him. He even loved shows/movies about cowboys and the wild west. Like many others, I have been waiting for Gruff to come out fora long time now, but I had no idea how much it would impact me, let alone be released at the time I needed it most. 3 years of painstaking work... gone where? This has to be the most ''mid'' lukewarm shtick ever put on the site. What even was the message? Pop Pop should have paid more attention to his kids? The old bastard was a prick to his daughter and it's somehow remedied by him getting cancer. Wow! What surface level garbage did I waste 9 minutes watching. When the fictional show within your short film seems more interesting than the show itself, that's bad... Sorry, but if you cried to this, toughen up.

My grandpa was a nam vet and was always quiet like that, he’d just sit and watch westerns and randomly start spitting life wisdom. Two of my favorite things he ever told me was “god don’t make junk” and “you won’t meet a single person in your life that you won’t learn something from. Generational change can hit hard. My grandma was reportedly a very strict woman to my mom while she was growing up. From the sound of it, it stemmed from rough upbringings of her own childhood. It never came from a place of spite to my mom, more so she was taught to be raised tough to survive and succeed. And upon becoming a grandma, and also no longer having to work to solely support the family, she became a lot kinder and gentle

I finally got around to watching this and holy cow I was not prepared. I’ve followed along its creation on social media but I had no idea just how heart wrenching of a story it was going to be. I didn’t know you could pack such an emotional punch in 9 minutes. Coming from a Latino family and having that same feeling of feeling under appreciated only to discover just how much love we all have for each other. Perhaps it was a mistake to watch this while in the backseat of my mom’s car on a road trip because I absolutely started bawling. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful work with the world ❤

Dude…I just realized something. At 1:38, Maria tells Persephone (her daughter) about when she was a spy. Shortly afterwards it cuts to a shot of her riding a motorcycle in a big city that appears to be the same as the one Adam (the grandfather) grew up in. Before this, Adam states that he didn’t have much growing up and often found himself eating off the street. In the flashback of his childhood, behind him we can see a young Maria on a motorcycle like she was in the city! This confirms that she is a time traveler and was the one that murdered her father all along because she knew she couldn’t keep lying to Persephone….💔

At first, I was confused about why it's only 9 minutes long, when it took him 3 years to make. But after seeing it- all of the care, love, and attention to detail. *That's* why it took him three years to make. It's a love letter. To his craft, his dad, to the story itself. Everything about it made with meticulous care to make sure that every detail has a clear purpose. Even the TV show is made in the style of the rest of the film. The little details in things like the way they all hold hands, knowing that one made this by himself, as a tribute to his dad. Everything about it is absolutely beautiful.

I have a dad who has never said I LOVE YOU. but he is always there to defend and give me everything. He has never hugged me, and i hated him. HATED him. We live in the same house and I think my cats have longer conversations with me than he does. I never knew it was abnormal until I saw my friend talk and hold eye contact with her father. The resentment I felt after witnessing that was absolutely shattering. This movie made me cry… idk if i will ever get to have a normal relationship with my dad, but im so glad this movie exists to put my heart at rest. Not everyone needs to say i love you or hug you. Sometimes actions are deeper. Thank you. I am sobbing… EDIT: thank you all for your kind wordsssss. I was so emotional when typing the comment I came here to delete it🤣 instead I think many relate to my story and idk if I should feel happy or sad about that. This is just a sign for all the lovely men who wanna be dads, tell them you love them, put their minds at rest. My dad is an amazing person, but I still long for that emotional warmth.

The grandpa liked the movie so much, because he projected himself to the sheriff character. He wanted to be as important to his family and protect them like the character in the movie, but his family was absolutely overachieving, while he was bound to a chair due to cancer. Very touching movie, those years of work really paid of, thank you so much again for putting this on KZbin for everyone to see.

God this made me cry. My uncle is the best father figure anyone could ask for. He has his favorite shows that he watches over and over again, much like the abuelo in this short, he sits in his favorite chair and wears his favorite robe and slippers. I don't know if I'll ever be ready for him to pass, the thought is too painful. That's what this video reminded me of.

Kerry.... you donated 50$ to ''mid'' lukewarm shtick ever put on the site.

I've lost my Grandfather 1 year ago, and this is very relatable and emotional. He was also a silent person just like the grand father in the movie always sitting in the couch also 😅 Watching this made me very emotional! I never knew a 9 minute and 14 seconds film could be so sweet and emotional holding back memories ❤! Keep up the good work!❤❤

Can't lie, one of the things I miss the most are those nights, watching whatever random thing was on t.v with my grandpa. Swapping the remote back and forth, sharing our interests. And since we were quiet, neither of us ever got interuppted. Which is what the rest of the family loooooved to do; talk over and interupt us. They just weren't interested in listening.

He put everything where he could see it. He loved his daughter more than anything. He never verbally said it. All of her accomplishments he put up on the wall because he loved her. I started to cry when I saw that. It was probably the best thing he could’ve done for his daughter. And after he passed she got to see how he appreciated her in the end. Absolutely phenomenal. If you decide to make another short film I’ll be looking forward to it. This is absolutely amazing. Thank you for taking the time to do this it is so well done and unique.
