For such a lighthearted show, this was probably one of the most serious interviews Rik ever had on camera. Despite joking about his own death and survival, he got suddenly serious (and rightfully so) thinking about how his daughters narrowly survived his fate. Medically, this story is one of the most fascinating. Not only is it a miracle that the blood managed to disappear overnight, but it's amazing how incredibly well Rik was able to recover after literally dying. It's true that he did suffer from epilepsy and other health problems afterwards for the rest of his life, but honestly there are so many people with brain injuries that are never able to get back half as much as he was able to. Thank god for him, and for us as well!

Gawd, that's really scary how close he came to death. I'm sure it made him take his life and loves much less for granted. I remember reading that Rik and Ade's friendship was really adversely affected by the accident, which is too bad. All of you saying this accident killed him in the end; even his wife said it was a heart attack!
@Iruparazzo10 жыл бұрын
Not to be pedantic, but the electrical impulses which trigger heartbeats derive from the brain, and brain damage can easily cause irregularities in the firing of the SA node. I am not a doctor but I am a medical assistant, and pretty much every "heart attack" patient I've seen had history of strokes or brain injuries. Heavy smoking also (eventually) depresses the systems which fire off impulses, often causing the patient to slowly reduce lung function (that is, the brain stops sending clear messages to the autonomic systems) and then the same for the heart which may suffer from arrested sinus activity (that is, a "heart attack"). For the sake of simplicity, most people (PR firms included) simply declare it a heart attack, because an explanation like the one I just gave is not something that goes into headlines well. That said, I love him and miss him.

Wow, I didn't know the bit about the blood disappearing mysteriously. Maybe love and fear of losing his kids, them being fatherless, and saying goodbye forced his body to recover. Amazing story. I don't know the guy personally but I do know he's seriously changed ever since his accident. He's softer and more in touch with his feminine side from what I've seen/read. Maybe it happened for a reason. I'm glad for him and all his kids that something good came out of such a horrible accident. :)
