It wasn't a bad idea: judging from the map at the start, it seems like there was a threat of being sandwiched between two possible/probable Mortar positions and whatever their supporting elements were if you just went West, so breaking North before moving to an evacuation zone made at least as much sense.

You know, I used to think that the morale system in games like Total War and Steel Division where if you commander/leader unit dies the entire force starts to collapse and break was unrealistic and bull. After seeing this video I now think its actually a lot more realistic, especially at the end. Shout out to Warpig the Nazi commissar on the MG as a blocking unit... only to be one of the first people to retreat. Truly a brave soldier.

Especially with top down command chains like the germans and Soviets used. The us actually had already adapted to this using a method of command where if and when a commanding officer dies there is always someone who is trained to replace him immediately. For instance in a us platoon if the officers and ncos are all somehow killed a corporal knows how to take basic command
@magmat0585
@magmat0585 4 жыл бұрын
@@Mrcookieonyt it's funny cause if I remember correctly, the Germans actually had something similar in place when Hitler first came into power. Because the german military was only allowed to have so many men, and they were planning to expand it, all of the serving men from privates on up were trained at least 2 ranks above their position so they could make the transition quicker and easier. In addition, in the early war there was a tradition that was carried over from late WW1 of allowing officers on the ground to make judgment calls that would disregard orders from the rear if they thought they had a better picture of the situation. If they were correct, then they'd get rewarded, but if they were wrong, they'd get nailed to the wall. Hitler got rid of this system as the war went on

This is one of the most awesome videos on this channel. It was a really nice op to witness even in this small excerpt format, and the red line through the "story" was more clear to me. (I dont watch the streams and dont play Arma, so normally its hard to understand wtf is going on during the Fusterclucks :D)
