Hello Danny, what gears would you recommend for a 2004 mustang gt 5 speed 3:73 or 4:10s and why those gears
@dannyjohnsonsgarage2 жыл бұрын
4.10 seems to be better for higher redline cars. My brother had 4.10s in his Bullitt and went to 3.73 and got better results

Good tip. Thank you for sharing. Just remember to be careful not to scrape up the mating surface. I would recommend the diff cover I bought- so much stronger, less flimsy, AND it has a drain plug! :)

The whining can come from different things depending on when and where it is making the noise. If it is constant with speed no matter what you do it could be wheel bearings. If it gets loud only on acceleration/ deceleration it could be the way the gears are set. If the gears are still stock its more likely to be a bearing.

Usually its the other way around as the brake pads are now thicker. I'd check where both cables meet together under the middle of the car and see if it came undone

Instead of fighting the parking brake cable just remove the caliper. The caliper bracket bolts will then be exposed and easy to get out. It takes less time and less hassle to pull the two caliper bolts than trying to fight around the Ebrake cable.

I have. Especially if the car was on an angle I.e. trans replacement with the front up on jack stands

Tip: when removing the diff cover to drain fluid, remove all bolts then finger screw in the top bolt 2 turns. Get yourself a 6 or 7 way scraper tool from paint dept. at Home Depot, it is a wide and very strong with chiseled edge for prying the cover loose and will prevent damage to diff cover. The single bolt will keep the cover from accidentally falling into the drain pan.

Couple questions: 1) I've read conflicting fluid capacity levels for the rear end of the 03 04 cobra with the stock diff cover. Is it 1.5 quarts or 2 quarts? 2) If i am just replacing the rear differential pinion flange and seal - can i just remove the driveshaft to replace these parts or do i need to tear the whole differential apart?
@dannyjohnsonsgarage6 жыл бұрын
Buy 2 quarts and fill until it over-flows out the fill hole. The seal “can” be replaced if you put the pinion nut back on EXACTLY back to where it came off, but the crush on the other side of the pinion is a one time use deal, so don’t be surprised if you get gear whine or burn up the bearing. USE locktite! It will back itself off otherwise- I ate my track lock with the pinion doing this for the first time before my gear install

I’d watch this series (maybe a few videos in on my install part) to see how it goes together. Pay attention to pinion preload and the crush sleeve

Thanks brotha! I am watching them now

took off the bolts connecting the driveshaft to the axle but it won't budge forward. i can spin it to get to each bolt but it will not come off. any help?
@dannyjohnsonsgarage10 жыл бұрын
You may have to support the axle with another jack and remove the axle in order to separate it You can try lifting the axle (but be careful you don't lift the car itself by doing so). Your only other option after that is to pound out the u joint.

The other videos show how to remove the axle if you keep watching

I'm doing the rear wheel bearings on my 99 GT....has blown seals bad bearings. so it looks like my pinion seal and passenger side seal were leaking (blown)..I also noticed the breather nozzle on top of the axle appears to have blown out a lot of lube...there's quite a bit on the axle. did someone overfill this rearend? or what would cause so much pressure/leakage? just seems weird to me.

what kind of floor jack are you using?
@dannyjohnsonsgarage8 жыл бұрын
It was a low profile one from Costco. Vert similar to the one harbor freight carries www.ebay.com/itm/272079521864
