The older I get, the more I appreciate Ringo. Always seems so happy-go-lucky, I think he'll outlive all the other classic British invasion musicians that are still standing. Huge thanks to Paul and Ringo -- and yes, Yoko -- for putting the pieces together to bring us one final Beatles masterpiece.

Ringo has not always been treated fairly in certain critic circles, but in my opinion he is mostly a phenomenal musician because he Always plays as a compliment to the music. Never tried to be a priority himself or to outshine anyone else in the band. He taught a whole generation of upcoming drummers to play to make the song work and that it is first be steady with a great back beat and to be tasteful with your playing. Second to add any "flashy" stuff Only if it compliments the entire band. He is a Complete musician instead of trying to be a "Look At Me" type drummer. I love his playing. ❤️🤟

its true. but now we have blackpink with a billion followers. they are the biggest in the World today. its different with a girls group, but their power is real. not one top model any were in the World can stand up and match any of these 4 girls. stadiums are full and expensive. every item the wear is sold out in 15 minutes if ot 15 seconds. even 11,000 dollar purses are gone immediately. they all speak many languages, like 4 to 6 languages fluently. their song like the Beatles are distict block buster. no dudes! and stunning beautiful. kind, generous, beautiful voices and they dont look and or act like hollywood leather legs.

I think Nirvana was the Beatles of my generation. They changed music forever. They appealed to almost all types of people. Even people who had never listened to music like that before. Kurt was a great song writer. And they also introduced their fans to other genres like punk and the blues and made them popular again too like the Beatles did.

@@NoellaScott they really started a music revolution. It was all hair bands and glam rock until Nirvana got played on the radio. Within a year or two everything had changed. They made it possible for bands like Pearl Jam and Soundgarden and Alice In Chains to make it big and people also started listening to anything Kurt listed as one of his influences from punk rock to folk and blues like Lead Belly. I doubt pop punk bands like the Offspring or 3rd wave ska bands like the Mighty Bosstones ever would have even been played on the radio either if it hadn’t been for Nirvana coming along and shaking things up and making people want to see what else was out there.
@craigcampbell1843

@@keefriff99 the impact Nirvana had wasn’t short lived. It’s still going on today. They changed what music would be played on the radio possibly for decades. I doubt modern punk or American ska ever would have been played on the radio if it wasn’t for Nirvana. They changed how people dressed and acted. Everyone started wearing flannels the year they got played on the radio for the first time and kids who weren’t even close to being born yet still wear Nirvana t-shirts to this day. I’m not a Nirvana fan boy but I did live through that era. I’d argue that if Kurt hadn’t died, Nirvana might have even had a bigger impact on society and pop culture than the Beatles have.

Are you comparing the 3 records Nirvana made to the entire output and the epic scope of styles and genres and evolution of growth of the Beatles' ouvre in the 8 years they were together (not to mention all of the solo work that came after it from each member)? I love Nirvana, too, but - no, dude. Just no. Nirvana played ONE style of music and never once deviated from that - and they were great at it. But the two bands are simply not comparable at all in terms of both talent and influence. I'm not saying Cobain wasn't a talented songwriter - he was great (and heavily influenced by the Beatles, as he said many times) - but different planets, man.

Open for discussion, but here it comes: I grew up listening to the Beatles, they're in my DNA and all that, but I have to say that Ringo Starr is the luckiest drummer in the world. He's not the greatest drummer by any stretch. He was in the right place at the right time. The drumming style he played wasn't as ferocious as Keith Moon, not as rhythmically challenging as Steve Gadd, others have great accolades. I'm not saying Ringo can't handle the sticks, but most any other competent drummer could play what was needed for the Beatles sound. I've heard rumors that, among reasons that Ringo quit the Beatles, only to be coaxed back by Paul, was that during sessions for either the White Album or perhaps later, Paul secretly went back in and laid down his own drum tracks. Ringo heard them and knew it wasn't his drumming. Maybe just a rumor, but if it was true, Paul didn't think Ringo's work was as good as his own. Anyway, the right place at the right time. Luckiest drummer in the world.
@Royale_with_Cheeze
@Royale_with_Cheeze Жыл бұрын
@@markahern9642 Yes, and Birthday. Iconic. But my point is that most any competent drummer could probably fill that role. When it comes down to it, none of them are exactly virtuoso players on their instruments. They're all good, don't get me wrong, and the pop sound they brought was wonderful in a time when nothing else sounded like that. They had great pop melodies, their psychedelic experimentation was groundbreaking, and in that sense, I have to give a lot of credit to the "fifth" Beatle, George Martin. His studio prowess allowed the boys to realize the sounds they imagine. Ringo fit in well with the rest as one of the loveable moptops. They were molded by Brian Epstein and played their roles well. When Brian died and they started doing whatever they wanted to, the results were the horrible film Magical Mystery Tour. I suppose Beatlemanicas would differ, but for perspective, I'm a huge Zappa fan and I hate his Uncle Meat movie. Helps to be objective.
@redadamearth
@redadamearth Жыл бұрын
If you think Ringo Starr is not a great drummer, with respect, you're not understanding what makes a great drummer. The guy is a human metronome. His timing is almost unmatched and he always knew *exactly* what served the song, which is really what being a great drummer is all about. The other drummers you're referring to were showy and extravagant - and that's fine for what it is - but the best drummers will always be the ones who you don't even *notice* at first and who are simply doing what serves the song best. And as for his few flourishes, some of the greatest drummers in the world are on record as saying that a few of his fills are almost impossible to play in the same way he did. But the main point is: knowing what serves the SONG - not "playing ferociously" or "loudly" or doing insane rhythmic patterns.
@Royale_with_Cheeze
@Royale_with_Cheeze Жыл бұрын
@@redadamearth I mean, I suppose when Jimmie Nicol sat in for him on the Australian leg of the tour when Ringo was ill, the fans didn't notice because the music couldn't be heard over the fans screaming. I respect the opinions coming in. The more I read from you and others, the more I appreciate his contribution. You're right, a drummer isn't supposed to be all over the place. Their main function is to be the timekeeper, or metronome, as you put it. I have to say that, as I mentioned in another post, I'm a Zappa fan and the drummers he had played impossible music. For what Ringo was tasked to do, he certainly fit the bill. For what it's worth, as Zappa goes, in his movie 200 Motels, Ringo Starr played the role of Larry the Dwarf, otherwise Frank Zappa in the film. Zappa didn't speak one line in the film. Ringo portrayed him. Just a little tidbit on Ringo.

There WERE other great bands until about the end of the century. It's been a wasteland ever since. Ringo said this 34 years ago. Unfortunately, he was wrong. And it's not mandatory. You could get four talented charismatic musicians together again, except these days, it's a crime to have an all male band. Everything's about prima donna solo female artists. People are too lazy to learn instruments, DJs (who choose music, not sample jockeys) no longer exist, record companies are unashamed to release garbage, and audiences have been dumbed down. Wow, how depressing the world of music became.
