Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power honest reviews are out about episodes 1 and 2. The media embargo for Amazon Prime Video has dropped and now the truth is out. Entertainment Weekly has hyped up LOTR: Rings of Power for months only to now call it a catastrophe! With more reviews coming from the general public in the next few days, and the full release soon on Amazon prime video. Can Rings of Power ever succeed when these are the first opinions of its fans?

The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power honest reviews are out and they are FAR worse than I ever expected. Critics normally fawn over this stuff just like they have on rotten tomatoes, but even Entertainment Weekly who have marketing Rings of Power for MONTHS ripped it apart. What do you think of the reviews so far? Did you expect they would be this scathing about the first 2 episodes of Rings of Power? Let me know your thoughts down below, and as always, thanks for watching :)

The EW review blew me away and its a hilarious brutal burn (everyone should read it), but it did gain the publication some credentials with me. Despite all the access and flattering Amazon laid on them, in the end, when it was time to do their job, they did. BIG burn and wish other large media would follow suit. Daily Mail was another.

I personally think they are starting to read the room and are getting out in front of it. If it fails, they want to blame it on anything other than them being disloyal to the source material and hostility toward the fans, and are planting the seed now.

The World has changed, I feel it in the water, I feel it in the Earth. I smell it in the air. It began with the forging of the great books. Ideas were given to J.R.R Tolkien, immortal, wisest and fairest of all beings. Film rights were granted to Jackson, great miner and craftsman of the mountain of lore. And nine, nine hours were gifted to the race of men, who above all else, desire quality and honesty. But they were all of them deceived, for another show was made. In the Land of Amazon, in the fires of Mount Prime, the Dark Lord Bezos forged in secret a massive flop. And into this show he poured his money, his malice and his will to dominate all shows. One show to ruin them all, one show to bind them, in the Land of Amazon where the shadows lie.

Peter Jackson, interviewed in GreenCine December 2002: "There are certainly themes Tolkien felt were important. We made a promise to ourselves at the beginning of the process that we weren't going to put any of our own politics, our own messages or our own themes into these movies. What we were trying to do was to analyze what was important to Tolkien and to try to honor that. In a way, were trying to make these films for him, not for ourselves." Lindsey Weber, Executive Producer of Amazon's "Rings of Power", interviewed in Vanity Fair February 2022: "It felt only natural to us that an adaptation of Tolkien's work would reflect what the world actually looks like." I think, that tells it all.

Indeed. However, Bezos would likely respond to this by quoting the Great Goblin's line from a deleted scene of 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey' (btw, as much as some dislike the Peter Jackson Hobbit trilogy, I honestly thought, among other things, that it made the Great Goblin into an awesome minor villain): "Abominations, mutations, deviations; That's all you're gonna find down here (In 'The Rings of Power')."

Oui, each race in Tolkien's books has a detailed origin, and they have their own distinct physical characteristics. The Lord of the Rings was deeply rooted in Anglo-Saxon history and mythology. Tolkien was a professor of Anglo-Saxon history and had a deep love and knowledge of his subject. He stayed true to the roots of this culture and that is where the magic lies. European folklore is in our DNA and that is why Lord of the Rings was so stirring. Messing with this ancient blend of history and mythology strips it of its authenticity and as a result its magic.

@@polkaking237 Yep, so it's pretty narcistic of her making such claims. And it's also quite ironic since she's not even the 1st female dwarf in her own series. Before we see her appear on screen for her first time, we saw a few female dwarfs before her. So, the irony is strong with this one.

@SKnight1968
@SKnight1968 Жыл бұрын
@@TheOriginal_Unaleska Agreed! We've had so many female hero leads through the decades that were all successful and totally embraced by men and (there wasn't any feminist bs issues then, so why are there issue now?). The Bionic woman, Charlie's angels, Wonder Woman, Cagney & Lacey, Isis, Supergirl, Ripley, Sarah Connor, Buffy, Samantha "Bewitched", Genie, I love Lucy, Mary Tyler Moore, Laverne and Shirley, Alice, Gilmore Girls, Murder she wrote, Police woman, Murphy Brown, The Golden girls, Xena, Nancy Drew, to name but a few. The list is much longer and distinguished that would be too long to totally enumerate. So, it's pretty hypocrite for female writers, directors, producers saying that men are misogynistic and don't like female leads in movies and tv series. It's never been an issue back then so why is it an issue now, according to those women complaining about their shows or movies failing because of men who can't get behind female leads?

Galadriel is stated to have taken part in a number of wars and fights, and often well-before he could make much use of her ring. I've seen the arguments and references, and the best we can say is they're unclear. She was there in SOME capacity inarguably. She is also described many, many times by Tolkien as athletic and valiant. Which of course isn't the same as 'handy with a sword', but she is also described as joining in with physical games and contests in her 'youth'. And she is thirteen hundred years old. I will happily grant that she probably never focused to any great degree on swordsmanship, but when you have thirteen hundred years that's a lot of time to pick stuff up. Galadriel is not going to be some wilting flower when some guys want to have a fencing match... she's rather obviously going to want to join in. She is universally described as wise but not afraid of combat and involved in combat, so that pretty much does necessitate some familiarity with arms and armour, because charging into combat with NO familiarity is FOOLISH, even if you are really wizardy. And remember that Gandalf himself was handy with a sword. It's not alien to wizards to learn such things. Occam's Razor seems to suggest that there's scant evidence to suggest she's a 'warrior queen' the way the Amazon show wants to depict her, but also scant evidence to suggest she 'never touched a sword' as others want to claim. The truth is almost certainly in the middle. I'm sure she spent a few years learning swordsmanship (and a few years isn't much to an elf), just as she probably spent time familiarizing herself with bows, daggers, and anything else her troops would be using. If nothing else, she is described as a commander and wanting to lead a people, and a wise commander would understand the capabilities of her troops and be able to hold her own in the back of the army if not the front.

The author summed it up beautifully. “It is painful to watch an art form die, especially the most popular one in history. Cinema has enthralled more people, across every stratum of society, than all others combined…With an appreciative audience still awaiting, Hollywood might have outlasted the Roman Empire. But like Rome, it is rotting from the inside, sacked by leftist hacks who could never have built it.” Priceless!

It comes as no surprise that many people have mixed feelings about this. Having personally grown up loving the books, movies (including the cartoons) and video games of the Lord of the rings, I am both very happy and very sad that Amazon's series is tanking. When the first news came out that Amazon was making a lotr series, I was ecstatic. I thought there was finally going to be a series about my absolute favorite fantasy universe that I could binge for years to come. Then I among many others learned what they were going to *do* with my favorite universe. So I'm happy that Amazon is failing, and that they're showing their colors by lashing out at the fan base, but I am saddened at what could have been the best television series to come out turning into another lecture show

So what is it that you liked in the movies and you didn’t like in the series? The accuracy? I’m thankful for the airtime the show is getting. And yes the fan base is hypocritical and unthankful. You’re happy that the show is failing you say, but the show is failing. And wishing so it makes you petty and pathetic. A lot of people worked for that project and invested emotionally. I don’t know if Tolkien would like the show, but he would definitely not be huge fan of the films either. But what he would despise more than anything is all the hate people have to offer to other people. Good day

@@earendilonautikos you telling that "a lot of people worked for that project and invested emotionally" like it should prevent us from giving bad reviews this shitty series and telling that this is a dance on Tolkien's corpse. No, we will not stop. They've done awful job and shouldn't be praised for it.

It really hurts as a Tolkien Fan. I want to love it. I want to love the amazing and beautiful cinematography. Which I do. However, I cannot ignore at the same time, the horrid writing, the horrid portrayal of chars, the horrid lore changes, and the horrid betrayal towards Tolkein. I almost wish everyone was silent, and I just got to see the cities, boats, mountains, etc. And that was it. At this point, that would of made a better show than what I watched.

Somehow, Peter Jackson's take on Tolkien was far more forgiven despite how he directly ignored the source material, or fully went against it. Rings of Power is based on more flexible source material, and it can take a lot more liberties. Let's face it. Most of the criticism was, to put it bluntly, simply racist.

@@TangiersIntrigue Because he didn't betray chars. outright. Despite making gimli more comical, he didn't betray him completely. A Galadriel who should be married already, and have a daughter. Is acting like a mary sue karen teenager. When she is thousands of years old. Elrond gets shit on, for not know tragedy? When he fought in the wars, and experienced some of the worst tragedy in Tolkein lore. That is why. Viggo Mortenson was probably the best casting choice for Aragon. Eowyn was played to a tee and was inspiring. Elrond was very much Elrond. Yes was it stupid Aragon didn't have his sword the whole time, or that Arwen replaced Gil-galad. ABSOLUTELY. However, the other choices like ghosts on the pelennor fields are understandable because they are movies and have shorter times. If we had Aragon going around collecting all the lords and fiefdoms to save Minas Tirith, we would of had a whole other movie or two. And monetary wise, they just couldn't pay for that all.

@@TangiersIntrigue I am black. Focusing on a characters skin instead of, you know, their character, is a recipe for disaster. It's not racism. What is racist is saying that you cannot identify with people of other skin colors. What is racist is comparing black people to orcs. Gtfo.

What Amazon did not expect is that Tolkien fans are educated, intelligent readers, deeply rooted to Tolkien's creations. It is like wanting to change the religion of a devotee. The Lord of the Rings is not just fantasy, it is the representation of the good overcoming the evil that surrounds the world... and therefore all this seems to me to be a great irony.

Spot on review. Personally, it isn't good when you wish Galadriel HAD drowned in the sea. Galadriel should be the most intriguing, compelling and awesome character but I couldn't tell you one thing she said in either of these first two episodes. If forced to choose, I would say Arondir is the most interesting character at this point- and he's not even a Tolkien created character. That says it all. BTW, there are classes online and at universities that will teach you how to write things like a storyline, dialogue, etc...just saying. But I will keep watching, maybe even perform a sacrifice, in hopes it will get better.
